Ive been scribbling these down of late. More to come. Edit: Ok heres where I am gunna start stacking them. This one is called "the equalizer." Well, i thought it sounded cool. This one is the "valhalla." Not very original. At all. But hey, it was fun to draw. This one is my personal favorite so far. "Saracen's Bane." -Insert bad political and religiously sensitive joke here-

Friendly criticism:
I suggest you use a ruler to help you with the lines. The end product is much crisper. After a while, your hand will naturally be able to work straight lines. It's sort of a practice that will help your designs infinately. Most of my beginning designs were made by ruler, but my last 10 or so were all eyeballed. I think the ruler helped a lot in learning.
Interesting design. Why the middle piece in the handle?

Interesting design. Why the middle piece in the handle? Yeah, I bought a ruler yesterday. Tis a shame that I already lost it. I think I saw a metal middle piece somewhere on myarmoury, and I thought it looked cool. Its up for grabs wether or not it aids in handling or not, however.

I was the weird sword kid through high school, college, and work while in college... There's no shame in it, but you do get some weird looks and comments once in a while... As far as your designs, the first sketch is good stuff, but some suggestions... First, for your scale, a 3 inch wide, 32.5 inch blade's going to be weighty.... I'd consider extending the fuller, or adding a taper... On a cosmetics note... (My college was art school.... so I can't help it...) the crossguard just feels a little out of place, have you tried some variations?

On a few of these, I admit the goal was basic design rather than complete accuracy. I will hopefully soon be able to create designs with all the neccisary specifications, but unfortunately im not quite there yet. Its kinda surprising how hard it had been to work with these 1.5 per square constraints... ive drawn some swords that looked great but when I measured them I said to myself "wow, that would never work." Which crossguard where you speaking of?

Hm, luke, when I design I never contrain myself to how much each square is - that's the aboslute last step I take. When you start getting an eye for porportion, you can design whatever you want in whatever length you want. The technical data like square values really don't matter until the very end. So design your heart out, make up a number of what length you want your sword (say 45 in) and then divide by tyhe number of squares

Thats what ive been doing lately Soon Im gunne have some more but with details and less rough. These were sorta preliminary.

Hate to agree with ramm but thats what I do to draw it first and then figure out how big it should be

Ramm/Sword: If you guys are going to snipe and snark at each other take it to PM or somewhere else, please?
Having said that, I think you were looking for a reason to take offense Ramm, any pretense offered. Why don't you two just shake hands and make up, I have said much the same to you Ramm and you took no umbrage my friend. Maybe you two just need to back off each other and make some kind of truce? Keep peace and do not make war in this forum.

The problem with the internet as I keep saying is that even if you mean it to be playful you need to over-exaggerate what your intention is. Written speech is a really bad medium to get emotional content across. Either use smilies to take the edge off or denote what you are saying or as I said over-exaggerate what you are saying.
