Highlander Katana Contest Winning Design

Hi, back in November, Davis/Panzer (Highlander) & Daryl Kyle ("Texas Steel Props & Replicas" & "Point Gallery") Held a contest to design a new Highlander Katana for the movie reboot. I entered the contest, and my design was chosen in the top 5. The top 5 designs were posted on 3 different Facebook pages to be voted on (Highlander Official, Davis/Panzer, & Texas Steel Props & Replicas). The official rules and details of the contest are posted below. The votes were tallied, and my design was picked for 1st Place, and is currently in development.

Davis Panzer Productions/Daryl Kyle Contest!! Design the new Highlander Masamune sword This contest is putting you, the fans; to work. The Highlander franchise has survived all these years because of our fans. We want your ideas and designs for the new Masamune Katana that will be passed down from Ramirez to Connor. Though there is NO guarantee that any of these designs will be used, they will all be seen by Peter Davis and staff. So what are we looking for? A detailed drawing, painting or computer rendering of your idea of the perfect sword handle, Tsuba (hand guard), and blade... though we want to keep it to the similar idea of an ivory handle with designs and a dragon head, we are open to all ideas. Remember when you design these that details are what make film props. Everyone knows the Highlander sword, the Conan sword, and the LOTR swords because someone had a great idea that lasted the ages. What’s the sword’s back story? Why did Masamune make the sword? What was his reason to make the design you chose? Is it from Japanese history or folklore? Is it from a prophecy? What? Take your time and think it through… In 3 weeks we will pick the top five entries and post them for you to vote. After we have the top 3 winners, voted by fans, they will all receive prizes. First prize will be a framed shadow box of the 3 original Connor sword handles and Tsubas (from Highlander 1, 2, and 3). Second place will receive a framed shadow box of the 3 different Duncan MacLeod handles and Tsubas used throughout the series. Third place will receive a hand poured bronze Duncan Dragon belt buckle. Please send your artwork to als_dlk@hotmail.com! and put ‘Highlander contest’ in the subject line. Files must be in JPEG form. You can send as many photos as you want but we need at least one picture that shows the full side detail, unobstructed. Remember that ALL art work becomes property of Davis Panzer Productions. HOWEVER, IF the sword design is used or even made, the winning artist will receive a finished sword made by Daryl Kyle of Texas Steel Props and Replicas with compliments of Peter Davis. Please share these posts with your friends and get the word out. Almost 30 years later the sword used by Connor MacLeod is known by all and became an iconic piece of history, will your design catch the next 30 years of fans?

Ok folks the time has come to see the top 5 choices in the sword contest... Please remember that we had 21 entries and they all were awesome! However these 5 had the most votes from our 8 judge panel consisting of Peter Davis and his staff and myself and a few other trusted people. Know that every design was looked at MR Davis himself and he was VERY impressed by each of them.
So here we go... Vote for your choices in the comment section.. Vote from most liked to the least, each design has a number on it so use that when voting. You can share this page BUT we will only accept votes from this site, the Davis Panzer site and the Highlander site, tell all your friends and anyone else to come over.. Please only vote once as that's all we will count. Voting starts now and will end Dec 12th at midnight Hollywood time. We have a lot of great designs so please take your time... And after all of the contest is over, each of the 21 designs will be posted for everyone to see and enjoy!
