hello all, I joined a few days ago and wasn't too sure which topic to list under, Greg E advised me thank you Greg. I have recently been looking to add to my collection of edged weapons.I do not belong to a re-enactment society these are purely to collect. I find the Napoleonic era very interesting so I began to look around, finding what I wanted was advertised for monopoly money in the U.K.(hard to import with our customs regulations) so I started to look at reproductions finding what I'm sure I want, there are three at the moment I need advice on all British the 1803 infantry sabre, the 1790 naval sword and the 1805 naval sword, has anyone any experience of these I think possibly Windlass make them ? thank you in advance for any helpful advice David (narrowboat Louisa)

David: Reading your first few posts I'm a bit uncertain as two whether you already have collected any of these in period historic versions or not? The market standard versions of these are for the most produced by two Jodpuhr India family related comapanies, Weaponedge or Universal Swords. I have a number of these which include the 5 ball spadroon in an infantry style and the 1803 infantry sabre. Fit and finish on these swords is quite good. Blades are carbon steel. Polish is excellent. Temper and Taper is another matter. They are not historic and tend to be sluggish. Not terrible blades; but below military spec. Can be bought sharpened thru Kult of Athena. Cold Steel sells a spadroon and dirk of slightly better quality. ( Did we do this on the subject of sword knots? ) The spadroon, 1803 inf, 1796 heavy and HHC dress are all Weaponedge. The 1796s; one is an historic Birmingham export, other is from Cold Steel.

hello Dave, yes i did mention them briefly in my second post (re sword knots) my first post i had listed under the wrong section but this my third request i thought was more in detail for my requirements, ( i already have a fair collection of antique 1821 to 1897 considering i have only been collecting edged weapons for the past couple of years(not re-pros),prior to that i collected firearms but decided to stop after my 84th purchase, hence as this will be my first venture into the Napoleonic sword era i need some helpful advice as i want them to be as realistic as possible (re your 1796 cold steel for instance I've not read about them ever been issued with a leather scabbard) waiting for a sunny day to take photos of my sword knots regards David
