Hi folks, long time no see.
So, my current EDC/Assisted carry is reaching the end of its life. Since I already have a multi tool, I'd like a dedicated blade carry replacement.
* 6 inch max blade * Assisted Opening that is legal in Canada * Would prefer very tough alloys as a blade - I wear mine out very easily.
Any suggestions?

It may be because I don't have an interest in HUGE folders, but I can't think of anything in the 4-6" blade range with assisted opening.
Benchmade Barrage with M390 would probably be my choice within those parameters. If you want something bigger, and there's the Zero Tolerance 0300 series in S30V
Once you get down to 3.5 inches, and below, there are more choices...but it really depends on what compromises you are willing to make.

I'm willing to go up to 6 inches, anything below is fair game. I could be convinced to go above if it is a really solid blade.
The main thing is that it needs to be assisted opening, and the blade needs to be very durable and tough.

To give you an idea of size, the ZT0300 is on left, with the BK581 right next to it.

The ZT would most likely be overlarge in my hands. Plus, I have a dislike against blade coatings. They tend to wear off really quickly. What are your recommendations sub 3.5?

I think the Barrage 581 is a great knive - I like the way it looks, it feels great in my hand, comfortable in pocket, and it's tough to beat M390 for durability and edge retention. The most comparable steels, to the best of my knowledge, aren't available in assisted opening folders. The blade is listed at 3.6 inches.
Dropping to 3.5 and below: - Kershaw Blur in S30V (don't have it, but mainly because I'm not sure how I feel about the handle insert material. *Note, S30V is not the regular steel for that knife - since blade steel is important to you, make sure you select 1670S30V). I'm pretty sure Adrian Jordan posted a review of the Blur on this site. - Zero Tolerance 0350 - a smaller version of the 0300, with a 3.25 inch S30V blade. (You can also find this in M390, as of this posting; but that was a limited run of 500 knives) *available in stonewash, since you don't like the black coating - ZT also has the 0770 (3.25 Elmax blade), which I like a lot...but the handle feels a little small to me - Benchmade Large Emissary (3.5 inch S30V) should be released in a couple months.
**Edited to add: You can always check out the websites of the companies, and put assisted opening in your search (or use the filter, if available). That way, you can see the full range of what they have available.**

Okay, I think I'm just in between the ZT 0700 and the Barrage 581.
Hrmmmm, anythoughts in between? My hands are fairly small mind you.

I'm guessing you mean the ZT 0770; but, since there is an 0700, I'll point out that the 0700 is not an assisted opening knife.
What is your current EDC; and what do you like/dislike about it?

don't know what your price range is.but one of the best large folders out there is the Darrel Ralph AXD.I've had one for about 5 years now and it is one tough large folder and it's so fast with assisted opening I've seen it beat auto openers.check out his web site.crazywolf

Swiss Army Multi
I have a Cold Steel something or other. The blade's just been beat, and it's nicked to hell and back.
I meant the 770.

If you don't mind dropping out of the so called super steel range, there are plenty of capable steels that are widely available & serve most people well. That would open up a lot more knife options...if you're hard on blades, you basically have 2 options: pay more for a blade that can take it, or pay less & replace it more often.

Nah, went off to university, less time, less money. Mostly archery, and hopefully fencing in the near future, so you might hear from me if I decide to splurge on a smallsword when I graduate.
Anyway, I decided to go with the Barrage. Seems like it'll do everything hefty that my multi tool can't handle gracefully, and small enough that I can eat apples and the like with it.
