I recently purchased the two handed Bearded Axe or (skeggox) from bladematrix.tv. I've dealt with this site many times and have never had a problem. Shipping was fast and the axe arrived, well packaged, in four days.
The axe is very well put together, with just a tiny bit of play between the haft and the head. The edge was very evenly beveled and polished in an abbreviated appleseed grind. VERY NICELY DONE. The axe was sharp, but not scary sharp. The haft was stained in a very even sort of antiquing. I don't think that I can properly describe it, and it has to be seen to be truly appreciated.
However they achieved the pitting and antiquing of the finish on the axe head is beyond me. It's extremely well done and very uniform. The axe feels like a quality weapon, and the little leather edge protector looks very period and sets the rest of the axe off very well.
The stats listed for this piece on therionarms.com are correct, excepting the weight. It is heavier than 1lb 7 oz. It does not weigh more than three lbs. That's about as close to the weight as I can get with simple scales.
Also, therions pictures do the axe justice, excepting that horrible blue background. LoL
In conclusion:
Historical Accuray 5/5 I can't really fault it, except that maybe it's alittle too perfect.
Fit and Finish 4/5 The axe head could have been fitted alittle better.
Handling 5/5 I can swing this thing one handed and while it does work out the arms, with alittle practice it becomes a very authoritative one handed weapon.
Value for Money 5/5 I bought this for $65 usd before shipping, with shipping coming out to another ten dollars.
