I recently acquired two Rondel Daggers made by Leo Todeschini of Tods Stuff. www.todsstuff.co.uk/index.htmI thought I'd share a few photos. The larger steel hilted dagger is from Tods English Cutler Line and features a thirteen inch blade, while the bronze hilted rondel sports a twelve incher. Both are very solidly made and exhibit a highly authentic look and feel. If one criticism, of a sort, can be made of most higher end replicas today it's that they're too perfect almost antiseptic. Weapons that were considered to be of fine quality in their day would exhibit fullers that wandered significantly, guards canted and/or off center, etc. Our ancestors lived in a far more organic world than we do and never gave these things a second thought. Today, we've become too used to computer controlled precision and even the slightest imperfection can be seen as a lack of quality. I'm very impressed with the quality of Leos work. He leaves a certain amount of imperfection in place in order to achieve a truly authentic look, and he succeeds in this quite admirably. Both daggers look as if they came right of the shelf from a museum. Both have a very solid and authoritative feel, particularly the larger steel hilted dagger. One of these days I'm going to have to work with Leo on a larger project.
