Just a brief review of this weapon:
After the remarks made about the cold steel Boken I am kind of leery about posting this but here goes.
Specifications:
Weight: 27.6 oz.
Ball: 3 1/4" diameter
Overall: 24"
Spike: aprx 7/10" diameter
1055 Carbon Steel
black Polypropylene
In my misspent youth I had the fortune to handle a small number of Native American weapons a couple of which were ball headed warclubs. I will not say that Cold Steel's version is equal to the original but I will say that it is a good aproximation.
While the weapon is made of polypropylene CS has seen fit to give it a wood grain texture which while not fooling anyone does give it a nice feel and better gripping surface than if it had been left smooth. The weight at 27 oz. gives the weapon a nice heft with out being overly heavy and within the range of the weapons I handled in my youth.
The blunt "spike" that the weapon is equipped with as a striking point is my one complaint, while it is effective it has little grace and sticks out like a sore thumb. A conical or rounded point would have been a much better choice.
After receiving this weapon I took 12X12 in sheets of cardboard made a 5in thick mat and bound it with packing tape. My GF had had a bad day so I let her do the honors her first swing buried the spike 3 1/2 in deep in the cardboard her second swing was equal to that by the fourth swing there wasn't much point in continuing ...a hit on a human body would have cause some serious soft tissue damage as well as damage to bone.
As far as a modern weapon based on a ancient one I would say that Cold Steel did quite a good job, and at the price it really is a deal.
