I need help purchasing leather ito wrap. every time I purchase this chord it tends to be cheap and the leather keeps snapping under little pressure. Can any one tell me where I can purchase good quality leather with a reasonable price and I would prefer it to be in the US. This would be a really big help.

Fred Lohman sells quality (but somewhat expensive) materials for all types of tsukaito. Hope that helps. www.japanese-swords.com

Cheap materials are not surprisingly going to fail a lot of the time and I've seen many trying to save a buck wind up spending twice as much as they wanted to because of this. On the other hand, there are some quality materials like natural nubuck leather ito that you have to be somewhat delicate with and it's not because it is cheaply made, just the nature of the beast so to speak.
Fred Lohman's leather ito(and suede) has a strip of synthetic material fused to the back (before it's folded) that gives it it's extra strength and prevents it from stretching. I believe there is even some kind of no stretch guarantee. The backing also makes it a bit stiff however and takes some extra work to make crisp folds and especially to finish the end knots but imho, it's a fair trade off. Since the surface is fairly soft it can tear(but won't snap) or scratch if you are using sharp tools so use caution. I have used Fred's leather ito many times and now that I'm used to it, I probably wouldn't use any other.
At $4 a foot, it's a great price considering it's qualities in my opinion.

alright so I was able to make it work. I think it turned out pretty nice, I used hishigami papers, house shaped wedges, but they were alittle thin. this is a ronin dojo pro with a ghost hamon. I know you can barley see it but it looks like a real polish

Nice job! I've bought some cheap (should I say value-priced? leather-like stuff from Artsfeng. It's pretty good, but not great. Doesn't stretch much, seems quite strong. Didn't worry about snapping it while wrapping. Didn't fold as crisply or control as nicely as the Lohman stuff, though. www.artsfeng.com/product/stc001- ... eather-ito Thanks, jason
