I came across this item from Lutel Handicrafts (not the other one) - what they call a German smallsword from around 1613. Blade length 40.5 inches Blade width - 1.18 inches COG - 2.4 inches 2.75 lbs. I wouldn't call it a smallsword - the blade is too long and the hilt is too complex. Make it a rapier for lack of a better term. I really like that hilt with the thumb ring. Does anyone own one of these or at least had it in their hand? What do you think of it?

That's an odd duck. It has a thumbring. Not classed as a rapier, becomes an epee forte cavalry sword. A thrusting pallasch. But I think of those as Louis XIV weapons. Don't know near enough about 17-18th Century evolutions.

Nice find. I like it. Any indication of the price? About what it is: I downloaded a lot of pictures of swords from a German auction house. They use terms totally different, but like Lutel, from the Anglo based auctioneers. Mayhem ensues! In the end it does not really matter much,I think. With that BL I'd call it a rapier for sure, but Dave has come up with the Epee Forte Cavalry sword. Okay, I am going to google that one. Used as a spear Dave? Looking at the careful way the hilt is made, I think it has class. Yes Sir!

On the Lutel Handicraft site it is listed at 14,900.00 CZ which converts to $740.20 dollars. That includes the scabbard. Belt and hanger cost extra
I think i'd like it even more if the hilt plates had some piercings. If I bought it, I'd ask them if they could give me a shorter, and maybe slightly wider blade, which would turn it into what some call a Campaign Sword.

Piercing they do I think. I mean, they do customs. The price seems alright to me. Campaign sword, I do not know. It would change the caracter of this one, but hey, why not?
