Well, it was. German Imperial. At Ebay listed as ,,presentation sword''. There were more names engraved on the blade, but this shot fired up the poet in me, or something. All kinds of scenarios in my head, about how this might have played out.

That's a shame and a sin. Feel sorry for the owner, I do. Blanche as well, assuming she understands.
What cautionary tales can you tell us, Ulahn?

Lots of tales playing out in my mind, Maynar. Too many to write down here. From the Hollywood romantic , to this:

Yeah, I'm cringing a little, here, but give it fifty years and this will just add to its historical value.

Somewhat sad but hopefully has a romantic story to it. If anything in 50 years it will be have historical value because it's written in cursive and far fewer people will remember how to write it!

Fredrick Lovret, a kenjutsu and akido teacher and Japanese sword dealer, many years ago told the story of a person bringing in an antique katana to sell. The antique katana blade had had some rust, so the seller had taken it to a friend who made custom knives. The friend not only polished the blade to a high shine, but also hollow ground the katana blade.
And of course, the signature/mei on the nakago was of a fairly signicant Japanese swordsmith.
The well-meaning knife maker friend had turned a probably $20,000 sword into worthless junk.
