While I was searching for info on Carl Eickhorn, I found these links: www.wardaggers.com/Carl_Eickhorn.htmwww.germandaggers.com/Gallery/Makers.phpSince the Carl Eickhorn Double squirrel mark for 1906 - 1921 came up on my Cavalry sabre, it might not be too far off to suggest these marks were stamped on swords too. I could not find any list of 19th C. German marks, as of yet. Cheers, Ulahn.

Makers marks go back to the guild system and Solingen sword makers marks were prominently displayed since the 15th Century. Unfortunately I don't think there is a decent online register of them at the moment. There are a number of dagger/knife lists online. Many sword makers also made knives, so there is a decent number of crossover companies.
Bezdeck's German swords reference book is the most accesible list.
