I'm getting into SCA - style rapier and cut and thrust fighting, and time has come for me to arm myself. I've come to prefer shorter and stiffer blades, I plan for a 37 inch blade from Darkwood Armory, but I haven't been able to find a suitable guard. I prefer simpler styling, like Prince Caspian's sword, or perhaps even simpler, more two dimensional. Any suggestions on where to buy one, make my own, or commission such a hilt?

Here's a description on how to make on yourself: user.netonecom.net/~swordman/Swo ... ltPage.htm Not the easiest thing to do though, don't know how handy you are with metal, welding, etc.

i love prince caspians sword =D the hilt for my custom sword John Lundemo is doing is kinda inspired by that sword. i would get a custom hilt made by Yeshua's sword. he does amazing work at great prices and i know he can do for-guards. im currently making a custom small sword for a friend with a for-guard and knuckle bow and its diffidently not that easy

Oh i didn't reckon Ernie could do complex hilts. How is he making them? I was under the impression he doesn't do hot forge stuff.

That's pretty sweet. Gotta think up a complex hilt project for Ernie now Also great choice Kent! I think you might as well ask Lutel to build the entire sword as a custom for you as they might not agree to make hilt furniture for a sword blade they don't own. No harm asking anyway.

Yeah I have given that some thought. Alas, the folks I play with are VERY particular about what they get stabbed with. I would hate to drop large sums of money on a weapon I can't use.

They do custom hilts at Darkwood. I'd call them and see if they'd do one for you with a rough finish, then just polish it yourself. You never know.

I didn't realize they did custom work, I will have to take it up with them.

Any opinions? Bated vs regular blade? I'm inclined towards a stiffer blade.
