www.sinosword.com/Chinese-sword-Han-Jian.htmlWith all the talk about poor-quality round handles on made-in-China Han Jian, I was interested to see the Sinosword talks about changing handle construction, with pics of how they do it. Sadly, I'm not qualified to judge from the pics whether the new approach is any good. Just curious, not thinking of getting this sword. -------------------------- Also interested to see that their main/new site now shows pics of swords you can order off the shelf instead of past custom work. Fits in nicely with the comments in DSA-related threads about how someone who commissioned a nice design of their own might be unhappy to see it being sold to everyone else. Of course they still customize, and if you need to see their past for for inspiration, their old site still lives at www2.sinosword.com/and an even older version at www1.sinosword.com/

It would be nice if they all understood the difference between advertising and outright lies - you can see the original lathe marks on the end of the wood, the channel is not shaped for the tang, it is just a square cut channel, once screwed together there will still be a lot of screw thread inside the timber.

They have started to make serious changes to how they do Han Jian. This includes a change I recommended to them. You can see where they cut the grip's wood core lengthwise to get a better groove in there for the tang.
It's a start. They now need to form that groove to match the tang and eliminate all that empty space in there. But this is a major step and done because an SBG member told them to. Means I need to finish the new grip for my Sinosword Han Jian and send them the pics of what I did so they have the full picture and can complete the improvement.
I just can't believe they really did it.

They're a company that shows awesome initiative. Now they just need more silk and leather colors for an ito job.
