Reasons why I finaly broke down and ordered one (from Therion):
1. Admired its clean lines since I first saw it at Atlanta Cutlery some years ago
2. My wife happens to be a descendent of Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee (through his first wife) and this is the type of sidearm he MIGHT have carried--that made it easier to justify the purchase to her
3. Been wanting a hussar saber since I first saw Ridley Scott's The Duelists some 30+ years ago
Ordered Friday (9/6/13) evening, so in the waiting game. Also ordered a universal baldric from Therion. To practice I ordered 2 Cold Steel polypropolene bokkens and a sheet of kydex--plan to turn those bokkens into honest saber wasters, with the kydex made in guards, and using lead washers to change the balance to 8" from the kydex guard.

I only have a couple sabers and one of them is the Revolutionary.
I am not an expert on sabers but like mine.

I too have one and like it a lot. It's a decent cutter too.

Enjoy it! That's the saber I started out with. It taught me a lot, and it set the hook pretty deep.

Congrats and enjoy. This type weapon is cataloged in Neumann's "Weapons of the Revolutionary War". Ownership and use of these weapons are usually left pretty vague.
Rather than a Hussar this weapons has the size and heft of a Heavy Dragoon sabre. More percissive effect; bit harder to weild.
Nut example of its class and period.
Love to hear your opinion once you get it.
Cheers

Well UPS says it's out for delivery TODAY!
It may be a bit before I'll start a proper review thread.
(Trying to keep from jumping up and down like a kid at Christmas!

Anticipating the distant-yet-obvious booming hollow sound of the metal sides of a UPS truck in motion. I perk up like a dog when I hear that. Usually though it's either their competition flying by my home or a uniform delivery truck.
That looks like a good piece. Congrats

Well it was delivered to my father-in-laws address on 9/27 but it took until this Saturday (10/5) before I could pick it up  . A full review will follow but overall I am very pleased . While Therion sells it under "Sharps" a more accurate category title would be "Sharpenable"--this is India mandated duller-than-butter-knife export. Well, I'll have some fun hours spending some TLC on this baby . Nicely wrapped in bubble wrap, no styrofoam peanuts--the baldric I also ordered kept the saber from rattling around in the box. My only other "serious" saber I owned was over 20 years ago, a copy of the US 1860 Light Saber and oh how I wish I had never bothered  . I almost expereienced the "helicopter blade of death" after doing some LIGHT test cutting on palm fronds--I heard and felt the tang crack, and was able to pull the blade free--the tang had been HORRIBLY tempered--I think the steel was actually burned, turning it into a brittle time-bomb. The leather on that thing's grip was cheap as anything, split apart with only a few minutes practice. The wood grip was some soft trash and had a distressing tendency to roll in the hand (much like the actual 1860 saber had a rep for doing!) so contact point on cutting more often than not would have been the flat  The feel of this hussar/dragoon sword is MUCH better. One reason I ordered it now is that I was bitten by one of my tomcats's 2 months ago and I am SLOWLY getting the range-of-motion back into my right hand. This saber while lacking the protection of a bar or bowl guard is definetly an ambidextrous weapon. No harm in a little off-hand training.
