(I'm reposting this here, more appropriate. Sorry, I was in a rush. ) The first of my KHHI semi-custom khuks showed up a couple of days ago. Just a few pics for now. You traditionalists/purists better close your eyes! The medium sized one is based on the 12" "Beast" and weighs 1017g/2.24 lbs. The small one is based on the 9" "Chukuri", and weighs 617g/1.36 lbs. I did some grip-swapping, added the guards, bumped the weights up to ~1000g and ~600g, and had the sheaths made in those colors. Those are standard KHHI woods and colors, I just asked for these instead of the stock components. You can make almost any mods you like that fit in with the "working khuk" concept they follow with their product line. The quality, fit, and finish on both are really impressive! The leather is fairly thick. They're sharp, flat, and true. And the Beast is still light enough to maneuver VERY quickly! The grip on the Beast looks large, but if you have medium sized or better hands, you can get a full wrap on it. It's actually pretty comfortable, but then again, the grooves are made to fit me. I'm busier than hell again, but I'll try to get a review up ASAP, log chopping pics included. Seeya, - TW (As usual, right click and hit View or whatever to see the full pics.) (Edited to clarify some things and polish this up. Thanks for the PM's.)

Thanks, Random. Well, this has only been up for a day, and with the Labor Day weekend starting up, I see all the forum activity has been way down. I got 2 PMs asking stuff, and that's it. I'm sure more people will pop in soon, even our resident traditionalists. Speaking of which, I know you prefer the classic style khuk, so it's great to see you like these designs. Sorry, no more pics until I do the review. It's tough to get really great pics, and I'm lazy, so I don't want to spend too much time on them!

I'm a traditionalist but the big one is pretty nice. I like it much better than the standard beast, and really nice scabbards too. It wouldn't be my first choice for combat, but it would be excellent for heavy chopping. The axe may be better, but it's not nearly as fun . Nice that you can actually order custom kukris, didn't know that before. Do they make full custom designs too or just semi-custom?

Thanks, Nilfgaardian. Oh, yes! They will do full-blown customs. However, they limit that to "working khuks". No fancy scrollwork on the handles, blades, or sheaths. They make the Kothimora sheaths with all of the intricate silverwork, of course. (Edit: I received an e-mail from KHHI, and they told me the options they can guarantee, since the wood colors vary so much, and the leather is NEVER the same, even from the same sources. Of course, you can always ask.) You can have the sheaths/frogs made in any combination of: - Black - Reddish Brown - Cream - Green - Natural (So you could color them yourself.) - A few colors of cloth wrap over the hide/leather (Ask them.) - Cordura fabric The wood for the handles can be: - Light brown - Dark brown (The buffalo horn isn't an option any more.) The blades and handles can be ANY design. They did a hawk for someone. I haven't asked about the sheaths. I like the traditional ones. There's probably more to it than that, but that's as far as I've gotten. When you look at TheKhukuriHouse.com, the materials and colors there are an idea of what's available, except the buffalo horn, of course. Go to the "Design Your Khukuri" link down on the left for their rates and a few pics of some custom khuks/knives. Their rates are really reasonable. Now you know why I prefer KHHI.

Well, I'm swamped with bookwork this weekend, so I'll try to do that review by next Sunday night. I grabbed a couple of 6" x 24" peeled viga butts (construction logs for NM style framing) from the rough timber place up the street, so I've got something to hack up! I wanted to also get a couple of 6x6 beam butts, but they wanted to charge me for those. Too bad, chopping into the edges of them would have been more impressive. I took one whack with each of the khuks at a tree branch I don't like, and they sunk in nicely, right through the rough bark. I think they're gonna be fun toys! Oh, carburetor cleaner is your friend.

Those are very nice looking knives, they look like they'd be very efficient. I must admit I somewhat prefer the traditional look, but I certainly wouldn't be ashamed of those. You have good taste!

Thanks, partner! Yeah, I'm trying to make these unique while keeping them practical, but a few color contrasts makes a lot of difference.
