This is awesome, thank you for putting the time and effort into this Findlithui. I am inspired to tackle a scabbard, again. I have what appeared to be a really nice scrap of light brown leather purchased from ebay on the way and a core is started. My core will be a 4 piece number, not routed out as I don't have a router and did not have good results trying to chisel the channel out in a former attempt. I still feel I can get it thin and tight enough though. Plus I am going to attempt to line mine with 100% wool felt I just picked up last night, we will see how that works, should allow me to make a nice snug fit.
Thanks again for the tutorial. I will be putting it to good use. +1 karma!

So a question on if you want to do any tooling or other such extras on the leather. Would that need to be done after or before the application of the leather onto the core?
I would guess after the fact, but always good to ask.

Ah see, I would have guessed wrong then.

Over on another forum I posted links to your scabbard tutorials here, and today someone linked to this scabbard tutorial yeoldegaffers.com/project_scabbard.asp I had seen this tutorial before and I am sure it is linked somewhere on SBG. While the wood core was not as detailed, nor was it as informative on making risers, it did go into a lot of detail about scabbard suspension systems. I figured it would be worthwhile to post this up here for others trying to do a scabbard project since a quality suspension system really can make or break a scabbard. Hopefully this will help some would be scabbard builders, since unless you had a scabbard with a suspension system like it to follow along (or take apart and see how it was done) you would not really know how it was done.
