Ohhh, that's NICE, Fallen! And for a 12.5" blade, that isn't that heavy, but then again, I've been dealing with khukuris!

Have a thicker one coming up 3/8in thick 12in blade. haven't weighted it as a bare blade only right now. It should be a real skull cleaver.

Lacewood, eh? Is it like that naturally? That's really neat, I kinda like it. Oh, the knife is good, too.

Lacewood grows this way don't ask me why, it is a unique wood. Snake wood is another strange one.

Whatever causes it, I like the look. How's it feel in-hand? Nice and grippy or smooth? Can you feel the texture?
Snakewood looks interesting, too.

Like any wood it will depend on how much you sand it down. This one is sanded to 120grit with no buffing after appling the sealer so it grips the hand well. I don't like a real smooth finish on a fighting knife especially one this size. Don't want it to fly out of my hand.

I was actually asking about the "lace" itself, whether the depressions in the wood give any tactile difference over the higher parts, but I'll settle for the answer given.

Ok the wood is smooth no high or low spots from the lace even when rough sawed.

Interesting. Thanks for putting up with me. Did I mention that's a mighty fine knife?

Thanks Random, I'm trying to improve with every knife I make. It is interesting the patterns some woods have in them. I think it palm wood that looks like a very rough graining but is smooth.
