Could anyone with calibrated eyeballs (metric OR imperial) take a look at the guard on the boarding cutlass below, and provide me with a guess as to thickness or gauge?

I just ordered a second hand Windlass Pirate Companion cutlass from KoA with the thought of making a new guard and handle.

I got some 1/8th inch sheet metal (which in hindsight is way too thick) and am fashioning a guard from it. I'll post some pics of the progress in the custom thread as soon as I get the sword in and start to assemble it.
