Would it be possible, or practical for someone to make their own studded leather armor?

Is this for stiff studded leather, or the type that consists of metal rivets in softer leather? Right now I'm just talking about rivets in regular leather. The type you have to boil in oil to harden would be quite a feat to attempt. Much to difficult for a first try.

It doesn't matter what oz of leather you use or if you are going to harden it or not,the sites where to help get you started( get some ideas or to go on the forum and ask what would be the best way to make one)
do have any ideas how you are going to make it? Are you going to lace it up on the sides or buckle the sides ? Are you going to lace, buckle, or button the front or do you want to put it on like a teeshirt? Do you want sleeves or no sleeves?
I have made a leather jerkin or tunic what ever you want to call it . I got a frontiersmen pattern from Tandy leather and modified it the way I wanted it.
I have some ideas for you if you want? It's getting late now and I will post them latter and some other sites that might help you.

Ok, just making sure we're on the same page about this. I'm not sure what design I would want, nor do I have an actual purpose for making this armor (although I'm sure I can find one eventually).
Right now I was just going to get started by learning about what to use for rivets.
Do you know of any existing plans floating around for making studded leather jerkins?

It looks like the kind of armor I was thinking of making doesn't actually exist historically. I was under the impression there was a form of armor that consisted of soft leather covered in metal studs. Sort of like a poor man's hauberk. So far I haven't found anything like this written about in an article or for sale online.

Now that I've read up on boiling leather it actually doesn't sound so difficult. I have some of the right kind of leather, maybe I'll test out the process with a few small scraps.
