I ran across some knock offs of some very popular (and nice looking) Spartan knives the other day and would like to know people's reactions. The knock offs are Chinese repros, just want your thoughts about intellectual integrity and how far some people go to in order to make (steal) money. One of the knives I saw was made of AUS 10, the other 8Cr17MOV. To top it off, the 8Cr17MOV model has S35VN imprinted on the blade, just like the original, yet the manufacturer states clearly that it's out of lesser quality SS. I know a little about steels (but don't work with it, so my knowledge is rudimentary), and am of the impression that steel alone doesn't make a great blade - proper heat treatment plays an important factor in the cutting/durability of the blade. That being said, which one would be a better all around steel if done properly? BTW, here's the original Spartan Harsey Model II knife that's being copied like crazy: spartanbladesusa.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=104Thanks for your opinions.

This is easy none of them. It is really bad they even rip off spartan's name. No way I would buy from them.

If you Google "aliexpress reviews" You will find that LDriggers (fallen) is spot on. I would stay away because of their reputation and, as fallen indicates, their lack of respect for another persons work  . My warning is meant for any who might use your link and decide to try one. I realize you asked about knife performance not company integrity; so I will say I would generally prefer AUS10 of the two choices.

thanks for the feedback - I completely agree with what you're saying about "lack of respect for another person's work". I'm editing my OP by getting rid of the links lest someone try to use the links to get them. I've been teaching hs English for over 12 years, and I ALWAYS teach my students to respect others intellectual property, i.e. not to plagiarize when writing an essay. Same thing applies here - stealing someone's intellectual property, in this case, a knife design, and making knock offs from the original. It pisses me off when kids "steal" someone else's ideas, and this pisses me off more since it's not only intellectual theft, but also making a profit out of someone else's thoughts/property.

I concur with you gentlemen on all levels here. It's one thing to buy a Chinese made katana in lieu of a real ni-honto, that is an apples and oranges comparison. You know you're not getting anything close to the real thing, and nobody is marketing them as an equivalent product. Well, almost nobody. But to sell a ripoff of a fine American blade, especially when the bastards have the audacity to etch it in an identical manner? That's jus' wrong all over the place. And that's just one aspect of this dishonorable practice. I may be broke right now, but I've seen Spartan's site before, and I really like their designs. I'll wait 'til I have the money to buy the real thing. Yeah, I want one. Or two. Or ...
