The Zombie Tools Spit has long held a fascination for me.Unfortunately every time I've had enough spare cash something else has crept up (shotguns mostly since i discovered clay shooting) And now the spit is being discontinued this has become even more special for me. I've commissioned Fallen for this build.Though i could make my own version i can't heat treat something this size with my limited set up. I've long been an admirer of Fallen,he does excellent work and at a great price so he was the guy i thought of to help make my dream a reality.I'll keep this post updated as it progresses. My idea of the spit is shorter with around a 17"" blade, also the tang will be fitted into a slotted aluminium haft with a type R pommel to help balance out the blade and keep the spear more compact. This isn't going to be an exact copy of the spit, rather it's my version of it so i wont be stepping on the Zombie Tools guys toes. I've got a few ideas for the finished piece but for now its all about the blade, and it's coming along really nicely . He's only just started so it will be a couple of months before i get the blade, fit the haft and pommel and finish the final assembly, but i had to post this up as the thought of a new sharp toy really makes my day(and my girlfriend doesn't share my excitement) Attachments:

Your girlfriend wouldn't know excitement if it started eating her brain! Awesome stuff Talon! I can't wait to see some more shots, and what you do with this.

No it's not broken i didn't want a conventional point,i asked Fallen to do a chisel grind on the tip. When he's finished doing the distal taper and the bevels he'll chisel grind the tip for me. See there's no point on the blank, this puppy is designed for piercing hard targets. It will have a 45 degree tip grind like a cold chisel and 20 degree edges for cutting Attachments:

Will follow this with interest Talon, looking good so far. I have a wooden training Yari about 6"ft in length, would really like one with a steel blade attached, this could be what I need to start it. Fallen excellent work on that blade.

I think it's so cool to have these pics of the blade being made. Short of hiring someone who's sole job is to photograph and correspond with customers there's no way a busy forge can do something like this. I just think its a killer thing to have, your blade being created yaknow

I have to admit it's great seeing this build progress ,i love watching it go from my initial diagram to where it is now.Fallen sends me regular updates with plenty of pics,he's a top bloke for this kind of custom work. Freq the handle will be around 24 inches long,so it will be long enough for thrusting and cutting but it will still allow me to choke up on it for close in work without being too unwieldy,(well that's the theory)

Going to say one thing this isn't going to be an exact copy to the zombie tool spit I am going to pull the bevels back further at the back and leave the a flat on the blade nearer to the tip. This way it will cut better at the back. Have all the work did with the belt sander, how it on to hand sanding to even out the grind lines. They are fairly even afer the belt sanding.
After Talon gets it here soon I will have to play the waiting game to see my baby finished. Gong to learn the zulu war cry to go with it. Of course you need a modern version of a zulu shield to be able to beat it against while you are doing the war cry. Somone else will have to make you a shield.
Doing a double edge blade for me at least isn't easy.

Well apart from putting his makers mark on it the spits all finished.I can't wait to get her and complete the handle work. A big thank's to Fallen, throughout this build communication has been great with lots of build pics included to show me the spears progression.I highly recommend him for custom one off work.

The Spit arrived today .Stunning workmanship and really fast turn around from the initial sketch i sent to delivery was just over a month. It's actually a very imposing feeling piece in the hand, much more beefy than the pics suggest. I'm thinking of turning this into a tactical short sword,or making a very short boar spear style. I've got three or four ideas but can't make my mind up yet,i want to do this build justice and just slapping two scales on it would be less than it deserves. I've took a pic alongside my A Trim for scale. Thanks to Fallen for taking this on.Communication was faultless, delivery was very fast, and the quality of his work is top notch.

Hmmm i'm swaying towards short tactical sword.I had it for less than an hour and accidentally cut the sofa while walking round with it. I'm not in the good books with my girl atm,the technical term would be in the s$&@ ,not sure if making it longer would be wise. Attachments:

Really cool project, I like the chisel point and L Driggers did a nice job with it. Sorry to hear about the sofa, and too bad you couldn't convince her it was somehow done in self-defense. I don't know how you're thinking of attaching the head exactly, but is it possible to make it removable, and then have a short and a long shaft? One for home-friendly girlfriend happiness, and one for zombie apocalypse? Just a thought.

He got attacked by a zombie sofa,or just wanted to test it out against leather armour.
