 Well i can testify that sofa armour isn't much use. I took your suggestion up Steelhound .I'm busy working on a 24"" short boar spear haft, and also two handle slabs, both are going to be Ebony. The wood blank i got cost and arm and a leg and could have done with being a half inch wider, but i'll see what i can do with it.I absolutely detest working with wood so it could well be an expensive balls up,we'll see.

Oh man, I've seen you work wonders with metal, wood should be a breeze. Excited to see how both versions turn out!

Well i got the Boar Spear haft 99% finished. It needs some final sanding and a few coats of Tung oil,and also i plan on buying some antiqued bronze screws on pay day.The silver ones were just hanging round my w/shop so i used them up. I ran out of wood so i'm afraid the shorter handle slabs will have to wait until i can afford more Ebony. I was mulling over how to get a good fix for a steel pommel to the wood, what i decided to do was make a brass barrel nut that slots into the handle, and the threaded pommel screws into it,that's why there's a random piece of brass there.I quite like it,it contrasts with the wood. I know Fallen gets impatient waiting to see how his work gets finished so hopefully he'll approve of what I've done.Wood isn't an easy medium for me to work with and i can screw up a nice piece of timber just by looking at it :? . I may round off the tang near the pommel to give a better transition, but i got this far without buggering it up so i'm dubious to risk it. The spear handles surprisingly well for such a big beefy blade.I haven't cut with it yet(well apart from my sofa),but i did stab it straight through a pallet with ease

Talon, that looks sempriniing awesome man! Ebony was definitely a good choice, and nicely shaped as well. So much for your fear of woodworking (arboraphobia?). I like how you attached the pommel, very creative and it looks great with the Ebony. Great job man, karma up!

How in the jimmeny-jeez did I miss this thread!!?? HOT DAMN MAN that is a fierce slab 'o' slicey goodness. The chisel edge is a very smart idea indeed - but I'da put a slight rounding on it, like a wood turning cutting chisel. I guess your sofa is proof it doesn't need to be improved on for stabbing though, eh? lol
It would be uber awesome if you could do a handle that could have the extended pole attached right to it- no switching slabs out, but rather some kinda snap or click or screw on kinda extension.

Looks real good, did you go with a smaller ball for more tip control, or a big ball to beat the hell out things. The sofa better watch out now, you can stab, cut or beat it to dead.
Thanks for making the blade I made look good. Would hate to think of what the shipping would have been if I had did the whole thing. Also don't think I could have did any where near as good on the shaft.
Now get to work on the matching dagger.

So Talon, how would you feel if I tried my own take on your design? I love how you put this together and I have this leaf blade sword drawing I never really could come up with a hilt for- as a spear like this it would be wicked.

Of course you do. A leaf blade with a full grind to the center won't be easy to do.

I was thinking more along the lines of a similar hilt with a leafblade- but not flat grind - I hadn't pictured it like that at least

I love this project. I really want a hewing spear about 4 feet long. I always did like the concept behind the spit and I may have to make one myself.

Been planning with Mr. Fallen and looks like he's gonna hook me up! So now I have more questions for you Talon--
Is your ball pommel a trailer hitch? An pics of the threads on it? Where did you get it? How long did you make your wood slabs? What is the total length of the finished spear, not counting the pommel?

Glad to hear you're progressing with the build Chris. The Pommel is a stainless steel machine ball from E Bay,here's a link www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pack-of-2-x-M ... 2571e7a7c0 The length of the wood handle minus the pommel is 22 inches. The overall length is 43 inches minus the pommel or 44 1/2 with the pommel and 21 inches of blade is protruding out of the handle. Looking forward to seeing what you guy's come up with .

[/quote] Im sure that if she were asked she would of surely got excited about it. this is gonna be a cool project, ive made a few spear type blades myself, so it will be cool to see a fellow bladesmiths version
