hello, first post here and first sharp purchase. after some research ( mostly on here) I decided to go with the VA practical longsword and had some trouble finding them in stock... but luckily I got in touch with sonny and he had one blade and scabbard left  since it wasn't assembled yet I got him to install the pommel from the Malatesta signature model so that the feel is more similar to my cold steel trainer and a hand-me-down (heavily used and abused) albion Liechtenauer. The quality of this sword is excellent, its pretty sharp and it has a good feel to it. the balance point is right at 5 3/4 inches from the guard on this one, so it is just a tiny bit blade heavy compared to the Albion. but the overall weight is a bit less on the atrim so I don't really notice a huge difference. after I picked it up from him today there has been a steady bottle and box massacre going on  now i am completely out of things to cut up and I think it is starting to annoy my wife..... anyways here it is,

Very cool sword, reminds me of some of the swords from The Witcher 2, due to the combination of a high medieval blade style, and a late medieval pommel type.

thanks fellas,I am enjoying it allot. I spent a few hours practicing one handed with a dagger and my forearm is pretty sore  I think I am going to talk to my father in law about machining me out a tungsten pommel to bring the balance point closer to the guard. that way I can just swap it out depending how i want to use it. also sonny at V/A told me he was planing on releasing several new models this year so I may have another one fairly soon. I would like to get a new blunt before the years end. and Nilfgaardian I never noticed before but it does sorta resemble Geralt's steel sword, I never looked that closely when playing the game. I will have to play it again

I don't think heavier pommel would be a good idea. VA practical blades are quite light, it's better to keep overall weight lower than pull the balance closer to guard and raising overall weight.

good point, also my father in law just informed me that a Tungsten billet in the size I will need is over $100 so..... I will leave it as is.

If your pommel is the screw on type you could try adding some lead shot, easy in - easy out, if it's peened you could try some lead strip and saran/cling wrap just to see what difference it would make.
