Hey everyone, so this is one of the odd weapon of kungfu, a big bagwa broadsword.
It's so or even impossible to find a good one out there that is NOT dragonwell made. But what can we do? This is one of the common type that you can get out there already and the blade is STILL not enough for my taste. I would want one that is with a really STIFF blade instead of a semi-flexible blade. But well, too bad, gotta stick with it!
Now if you get the blade like mine, you will realize 2 problems that you might want to "mod".
1. The handle is rattling
The crappy handle is hollowed out inside but the shape doesn't fit the tang all the way. There is a lot of space there in the gap and so you either fill that up with eproxy like how some people here does with han jian, or you can do it my way, which require no skills --- hockey tape! I wrapped the tang up with hockey tape (2 layers) and force the handle back in. The last 4 inch of that going back in is impossible by hand, so I put the nut and washer back and start to screw it back on, now it is 100% STIFF and secured in that thing, no chance of rattling anymore, it's SO STIFF now.
This mod not only secure your blade but also enhance your practice session, even a bang of the blade won't make you feel that the thing is breaking up soon, haha!
2. Balance point mod
Some people think that this is a problem while I doesn't. The PoB is abit out the tip, so if you want, you can make use of that filmsy pommel there by filling it up with steel BBs (4.5mm) and then stuff it back on with the end of the tang sticking thru the BBs and out the back of the pommel. Now screw things back and you get a heavier blade with the PoB more to the guard. After the mod, you will get the PoB to shift up quite a lot, to like 4" from the guard, not bad, but I like blade-heavy stuff more, so I just undo'd mine after awhile testing it out.
But honestly, after mod #1, you won't even need to unscrew the blade anymore for any purpose, so this mod with the BBs might be something you want to consider too if you think it's kinda heavy on the blade.
Enjoy one more form by me!
