Yeah, I like that. Where'd you get the gunto fittings?

I got them here: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... =all&tid=0 Here's another listing of the same fittings from the same seller (although WAY overpriced, if you ask me). www.ebay.com/itm/JAPANESE-Tachi- ... 232c97dd8e I bought mine on auction and got it for just over twenty bucks. I'm debating whether or not to replace the Musashi tsuba I have on my katana with this tachi/gunto tsuba that comes with it. I'm kind of a bit dismayed by how hard these fittings can be to come by. This is the only seller I've found who has them for purchase separately.

My pleasure.
One thing to keep in mind, the fittings are a little smaller than I'd initially thought they would be.
They worked out fine for my purposes, but they were marketed as "tachi fittings," which one would think would mean they would fit a katana-sized saya.
As it is, they were a very tight fit on the Tactical Wakizashi saya.
Just something to be aware of.
On the other hand, they're also very well made, seem to be very durable and heavily constructed.
I am definitely happy with them.

I did a couple more mods to it: the Menuki and leather wrap. I thought it sort of balanced out the saya, somehow.

This is the original one, with a few more mods on it since my initial post:

I liked it to begin with, and it's getting better, or perhaps I should say, I like it even more now!

Thank you. It's a lot closer to what I'd initially envisioned.
I'm on the fence as to which of the two I like better, to be frank.
I ordered a second 100ft line of coyote brown 550 cord that I used on the second tac wak, and it turned out to be a lighter greenish-tan, rather than the more brownish-olive color of the first.
Both were Rothco, so I have no idea what's going on with that, but I liked the color of the first much more.
I think I really am finished tinkering with these two. I have one more katana that I'm just going to leave alone. I figure if I'm ever wandering the wastelands of the zombie apocalypse, I'll just attach the katana and one of the tac waks to my ruck sack and carry the other on a sling to use as needed.
Of course, I'm rather semprinied if those zombies have machine guns, but there's no such thing as a perfect plan, right? Haha.

As von Moltke once said, "No plan survives first contact with the zombies."

I tried for some paracord from the US - $20 of cord and $50 to post !! so I'm trying to source some decent stuff locally. So far not so good. Too much Chinese "almost as good!!"

The only one I'll go with at this point is the Rothco mil-spec paracord. Any other I've tried has turned out to be a waste of money. Also, though, beware of sellers on eBay who claim to sell Rothco or mil-spec paracord. The only way to really know for sure is to get the stuff, itself. This is a reliable seller, I've found: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0039L ... NPGKURPVSY Hope that helps.

Decided to mount the apocalypse wak like this (ignore the pajama pants. It was a lazy day).

That's a cool way to mount that Wak.

I got inspired to do this after I saw a couple reviews of the Hanwei Banshee Cutting Sword where the reviewer slung the weapon behind their back, pretty much like that (or this). I affectionately call it "suicide carry." Mainly, because I figure it necessitates having a lot of faith in your sword's retention system. It could also be that I'm a dork. Which is what my wife thinks.

I ended up using a coyote brown MOLLE/PALS strap as a retention strap for both wak's. I wanted something that would keep the sword secure if I did anything short of fall into a volcano. They're very rugged and the straps'll stay secure through just about anything, but will unsnap pretty easily with a flick of my thumb. It's hard to see in the grainy full-view pics I posted, but here's a closer look. (Revelation: I need a better camera)

I should just cut and paste from an earlier response by me, because I'm pretty much saying the same thing. I liked the idea from the beginning, I like the execution, I like your Superlative Short Survival Saber Shoulder Suspension System (SSSSSSS for short). I even like your ductwork.

I've been buying some nice, genuine paracord from 60xcustomstrings on Ebay. Great people and free shipping here. BUT: Just like the guys SerpentandSword mentioned, they only ship to the US and Canada. Sorry, Aussies ... (EDIT: Sorry, you already mentioned the Chinese guys!)
