Hello everyone my name is Carl and I'm new to the forum and thought I would say hello. I have a keen interest in History and Archaeology and pursued this further at University. My interest in swords stems from my academic studies, and I was never interested in just reading and writing about them if I didn't understand how they were used, developed and evolved. I have only been using European swords for the last two years and currently own a Cold Steel 1796 Light Cavalry Sabre, and a Valiant Armoury Savoy. They are both very different swords but they both cut really well. The VA Savoy is just a joy to use and cuts most targets very easily, either one handed or two. The Cold Steel 1796 LCS really surprised me at first, as I only had the Savoy to compare it too, the balance is obviously forward in the blade due to its configuration, and it is not a graceful blade by any means, more of a bar room brawler, but boy does it cut. I took a long time to consider my first sword and decided on the VA Savoy as I liked the blade geometry, and the scabbard is very well done. Now I have got the bug so to speak I really do fancy another sword. The Albion Viceroy looks very tasty I must say, but I have just been on Rob Millers site Castle Keep and I feel all weak at the knees.

I have a mental image of a pattern welded type XX by Rob Miller, but wife needs a holiday.

Welcome. I visited Yorkshire several years ago, beautiful country. Without looking at a map don't recall if Durham is considered east, but I visited there (loved it) as well as Scarborough which is indeed east if I am not mistaken.
A big welcome to the site. A really great group of friendly people.

Hi. Welcome! Any digs going on? Archeology is my main interest too. You talking about fish and chips makes me hungry. Any fried mussels with 1001 sauces over there? Cheers, Ulahn.
