I'm wanting to polish out some minor stains on the blade of a sword I've got. It's a hand and a half blade made out of S7 tool steel. Going to dig for info now, but figured I would ask to see if the type of steel makes a difference. Here's a pic... The stains are mostly from showing the sword to people, they always want to touch the blade! I have more pics if needed. Thanks! You guys know your Shi.. Err Steel!

You could start out with aluminum foil and water. It's a polishing trick I heard about recently, and the explination seems fine.
Scrunch foil into wad Dip in water Rub out stains
The water and foil will make a paste that will polish the harder steel. I haven't tried it, but I've heard of people who have.
But if you want to skip that, go for some Mother's Mag Polish or (Metal Glo?). You can find them in almost any automotive section of a store.
