Can anyone help ID this sword? I found it about 2ft buried in central Oklahoma. I took a magnet to it and it sticks to the blade but not the handle. I also found the attached buckle and spearhead in the same area Attachments:

I'm no expert in the period, but the hilt has the characteristics of a hanger/saber of the 1760-1815 timeframe. Lion or bear headed swords were quite common to most European sword styles of the period.
The hilt appears to be screwed together. That suggests a toy rather than a weapon.
I'd contact the state historical society for help.
Hope you got good location shots of the find and you know your way back.

Interesting. I found this sticking in the ground outside a club I belong to about two years ago. It's about seventeen inches long altogether. Damn, pictures are cut off. I haven't measured the cat. *edit* Click on pics for full view.

From the other thread where you posted this: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16931Modern Indian sabre; this is one of the common varieties. These are usually non-functional wall-hangers. For tourists, cheap sword-like decoration, etc. In this condition, just junk (and some would say the same even if new). Could be as old as the 1970s. They still make them.

Yeah, I saw that, Timo. I just thought it curious that we both came across these the way we did.
