I realise this must have been asked hundreds of time before but I must be using the wrong phrase or name, as try as I might I've failed to find the answer! I'm looking for minimalist padded wall hangers/mounts/brackets, call them what you will, to display katana. I don't want anything decorative, but something substantial enough to support a sword without damaging it or detracting from the katana itself! Closest I've been able to find so far is something like: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adjustable-Gu ... 3a796e823f An item for guitars etc but would look to fit the bill. Any comments or guidance?

dollar stores sells "U" shaped hangers and other funky shapes which screw into the wall. Screw these into a stud, and Robert's your fathers brother. Command Strip hooks work too. Or if you're handy make soemthing out of wood. Attachments:

For some reason I didn't get a notification for your reply, so thanks! No $ shops in the UK though Hmmm, so some form of padded U hook...

try hardware type stores - check the garage items aisles and closet aisles.

I am using hidden bracket shelves with coat-hooks screwed into their tops. If you can get the shelves with flat fronts, it opens up more options... Attachments:

Yeah, fair comment  I like the look of this one: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140938457379? ... 1438.l2649 Clear perspex, that I guess I could put some protective padding on - what I'm after is something that doesn't detract from the kitana and saya but won't potentially damage it either whilst on display. Search continues... :geek:

Try a music store. They have instrument hangers for all sorts of instruments. Most musical instruments will weigh at least as much as a sword, so they should be plenty strong enough.

How are you planning to display your swords, horizontal, vertical?
I don't think you need any padding if you use wooden stands. And I think the acrylic display doesn't need padding either. As it's for display you place the sword in a stand, so what would be damaging it as it lies down on a stand?
I worked my old floor stand to a wall rack for my euros but it can hold other swords too. Wood with no padding on. I don't think a good stand detracts anyting from the beauty of the sword as I like wooden stands.

jlwilliams: Wooden - each to their own, but I wanted a single unit system where if it gets knocked or if there's any "slippage" over the period it's displayed for there's no damage to the saya.
Jussi Ekholm: Horizontally displayed. Musical store - thanks, will look online.
Have to say I'm surprised more people don't display them with this minimalist approach...

Again, musical instruments are often nicely finished wood and valuable. Not so different from a saya. Hangers made for instruments will probably be as close to purpose built for sword as anything that isn't purpose built for your swords.
