Let me start of by saying that I am an unashamed wheel of time fan. I've followed the story from the beginning when I was 16 and am preparing to read the last 2 volumes at the moment. As such I've always had an idea in my head what the characters and their chosen weapons look like,in particular Tam al'Thors sword and Perrins axe. Now,I have seen various versions of the WoT Warder swords, and t be honest none of them really sit well with what I see in my head. So I,m going to try to make one !
In part I decided this after a forum member stated that I seemed to prefer euro swords over Japanese swords after I said on a recent thread that I didn't really care for ito style hilts, and then William Swiger posted a pic of a katana on which he'd done a euro style leather wrap which I think looks damn sexy,so it got me to thinking, euro hilt with a Japanese blade?
Anyways, my idea is or was to get a cheness shirasaya o katana, pull it apart, fit a slightly forward curved guard similar that on my dreaded DSA danish two hander but not ad pronounced, then peen a wheel pommel on the other end and finish off with a woven leather hilt, similar to that on a stock whip.I'm wanting to use brass fittings partly coz that's what I like but also coz I've found a distributer in Oz for what I want. The dimensions i,'m hoping to end up with is a 30+" blade with an 8-9" hilt plus pommel.
Anyway what does everyone think? Has it been done before? Is it even possible to do? ( I personally think it is ,I've had plenty of experience meshing things together :-) ) Constructive criticism is welcome, but you can keep the the other kind lol !
