Some of you may be familiar with the Great Knife wielded by Triangle Head in the Silent Hill game. This past year I was commissioned to make a replica of it. Made out of 1/4" thick steel and hickory and standing almost as tall as I am this thing is a beast. Let me know what you think, Dan

Geez, how much does that weigh? Have you got a comparison shot next to a person or metre rule or whatever?

I have to admit I am very impressed. The last time I saw something more impressive than this was the Battle Angel Alita Balisong Sword of which only two customs were made. I got to see and handle one of them. Good luck with your project and looking forward to the results.

I think that is the finished project. There isn't much more to it.
It looks pretty wicked Dan. Neat.

Thanks for the comments guys. Yup the pic I posted is the finished item. It was interesting taking the thing to a high polish and then using mustard process etc to make it look ancient and gore covered. Brenno, here's a shot of me holding the rough cut blade blank...I'm 6' so that should give you some sense of scale. If I remember correctly it ended up being 30-35 lbs. Dan

Well if you could ever swing the thing you could probably even take out buildings with it, before the inertia of the blade ripped your arms out of the sockers

Thanks for the pics dand. What does the owner do with it?
Have you made any other blades?

You know I'm not really sure what the owner does with it. When comissioning it he specified it should be able to stand up to swinging it around and hitting a few things (though with the overall weight and balance he would have to be much stronger than I). I tend to do historical work, but this was one project that intrigued me.....so I took it on.

What kind of steel did you use? And did you heat-treat it? I'm assuming you did not, and it is meant to be a non-functional wallanger/novelty piece.
Either way, truly awesome craftsmanship!

Wow!
That is an impressive monster of a blade! Great job bringing it to life, so to speak. Triangle Head has always been one of my favorite video game creeps.

HOLY SH*T!
That's monstrous, that thing. What steel did you made it of? Is it sharpened?

I used A-36 structural medium-carbon steel. I had priced what it would cost to use a high carbon or tool steel and heat treat it. But the cost of material and sending it out to be heat treated (I don't have the facilities to heat-treat something that big) was too cost prohibitive, so in the end the customer just decided to go with the A-36. So yes it is essentially a walhanger.....though the sturdiest wallhanger I've ever seen As to sharpness, well I took the edge down to about 1mm. Dan As to other blades....currently my cue is pretty much hilt remounts, scabbard construction, grip rewraps etc.....but I do have another full blade on the way and when she's done I'll post pics. Thanks, Dan

Regardless, if it was used against any number of foes, somebody on the receiving end of the blows would likely take a significant amount of damage. ( )

WOWZA!! Seriously... that is one gargantuan knife, and at a whopping +30lbs! Heck it wouldn't need to be overly sharpened to lop off human limbs. What a scary thought indeed. Nice work dand and welcome to the forums.

Heh, but you probably could sit and smoke a cigarette in the time it would take someone to actually swing it at you.
