So I decided I needed another sword! Having been in love with swords for as long as I can remember, I've purchased a number of them over the years. From my first chromed paper weight to my $1000+ Angel Sword I've seem most everything a sword buyer can see when trying to buy a sword. I was moments away from clicking "buy it now" on a black bladed Ninja sword offered on EBay when I came across the SBG site. I read through the site and visited the links in the directory. I decided to not purchase the EBay sword, even though there I could pick a different tsuba then what came on the sword (not that I can't buy one and swap it out). Having read about the different types of steel they are using to make swords I was leaning toward 1095 for a functional sword that could actually be used if necessary. My problem was that I only had a budget of $150, which limits me to the low end of possible swords. I ended up picking this sword - www.swordsoftheeast.com/tenryuha ... sword.aspx It says that the steel is Damascus  which could mean anything. But I'm hoping that because the company was listed on the SBG site, that it will be a good sword. Here is what I was going to buy from Ebay- www.ebay.com/itm/261126055935?ss ... 1423.l2649 So, I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with the Ten Ryu Damascus swords? Or has heard about them? My plan is to buy a black bladed Ninja sword, then later when I have more money, buy a better Katana in the $150-300 range. Any info would be appreciated! I love swords, knives weapons of all sorts. It's cool to find a place where others share my addiction. My wife just doesn't understand my fascination

Ok, if you use these black bladed swords for cutting the coating will wear in places and show the bright steel underneath, this can sometimes be covered up with cold gun blue or even a black sharpie
There are some lucky guys here with wives that buy them swords! true! some ladies like swords as well but nothing beats being single again

Yea I figured the black coating would flake or come off over time. I'm willing to accept that, honestly aside from verifying the edge I don't anticipate chopping up anything substantial with it. That's what my MRL $100 sword is for

It's honestly not that great of a sword. They branded their company on the blade aswell as "made in china" so it's annoying. Looks cool tho

Well this is somewhat depressing.... www.rivalswords.com/ten-ryu-knig ... sword.aspx Looks like the same sword only $25 cheaper and offered on a bargain site. I'm contemplating writing the company and seeing if they have shipped the sword already, I only ordered it yesterday. The main thing that bothers me is that it doesn't say what material the sword is made from and I'm afraid it's made using 1045 or something similar. Perhaps I can switch to a sword made with 1095 which I would prefer.
