Hello everyone,
the last few months I've been lurking around here every day and now it's time to become a member of this great board. I'm a 39-year old guy from northern Germany, living near the place where three Roman legions under the command of Quinctilius Varus have been perished more than 2000 years ago. Since two years I'm deeply interessted in collecting swords, so I'm relatively new into this, but I have a strong interest since my childhood days as I was wielding knives nearly every day. My sword-collection grows on and on slowly and now I've already 10 swords and I'm looking for more.
Cheers, Ulrich

Hi Slayer, my collection is a mix of different sword-styles, cause I like nearly every sword-style if it's no kris . At the moment my little collection covers: 4 Katana (1 Zheng-cutter, 2 Kawashima Steel with Kobuse-lamination, and the well-known bamboo mat-kat from Hanwei) 2 Wakizashi (1 Kawashima Steel mono-blade, 1 WKC spring-steel) 2 Euros (1 no name-hand-and-a-half from Longquan and one of the well-known Hanwei-Tinker one-handed) 1 Chinese (a Qi-Jian from Longquan, much cheaper than the Hanwei-version) 1 saber (the Prussian M1852 from CS, which actually should be a M187*) If asking for my favorite sword, I would like to say it's the Prussian saber. But maybe tomorrow the Kawashima-kat with the full blade (got one with bo-hi, too) or the WKC spring-steel-wak would be it. It's really hard to say and it will be even harder the more blades I get.

That's a very respectable start to your collection! I'm envious of your Bamboo Mat... I've always wanted one but it's just out of my price range atm. Would you be able to post a picture of your Jian? I'm fond of them and the idea of one cheaper than Hanwei is attractive. Sounds like you've firmly planted both feet in the deep end of sword-addiction! -Slayer

Welcome to the forum. Nice to see someone with multiple Kawashima blades, would be nice to hear your impressions on those.

At the moment I'm on the move to another town nearby, so everything is a little bit chaotic here. As I will be in my new house, I'll try to make some nice shots of my displayed swords. But you can see some good pics of my Jian here: www.schwertshop.de/schwerter/tai ... ert-2.html It's not third of the price of the Hanwei-version, so the quality should be a little bit lower than from Hanwei. And there are differences. This cheap Qi Jian isn't forged from one piece, so the point of balance is not so close to the hilt as it is at the Hanwei. And it's possible to get one with issues. The hilt of mine is a little bit loose and seems not very trustful, so I plan to rehilted it. I like them very much. There's a little issue with the wakizashi. It seems, that the hilt is not only tightened by one mekugi, but also glued. At the moment I havn't the right tools here for going into a deeper research, but it will be done soon. The two katana are fine in every point. They are nearly as sharp as the Bamboo Mat. Full disassembly is easy and they have signed tangs. I also like the tsubas very much. They are a little bit bottle-shaped, so they are great to wield. Tsuka-ito is wrapped in the traditionel way. The points are reinforced which looks very nice for me. I also like it very much, to have more thrusting-power than these cutting-optimized blades. But the Kawashimas should be decent cutters, too. Havn't tested it yet, cause I'm more in collecting than using. Below I post some links to the tree Kawashimas I have. These links are from the Schwert-Shop and the katanas show their actual price. The prices are 50-60 Euro more than I've paid a year ago. Many other Kawashima-swords in this shop show their old price. If the seller get's them in, the price could increase, so happened the last few months. I won't give that shop a high recommendation, but if you know how to take it, it's possible to make a good deal sometimes. www.schwertshop.de/schwerter/kat ... mit-3.html www.schwertshop.de/schwerter/kat ... obuse.html www.schwertshop.de/schwerter/kat ... asaya.html (the certificate shown in the wak-link is the one for the katana-version, the wak comes with the wak-certificate)
