You know why they're making crap instead of real swords? It's because there's higher chance ppl will buy something cheap and blunt ( as some use it for cosplay or whatever ) and the fact that with these there's no way they'd ever be responsible for someone getting hurt ( i mean, these are not meant for any cutting use, i'd say at best you can do some slow swings with these ).

actually Bytheway, though many anime fans will buy the replica weaponry. Most cosplay conventions will not allow you to bring metal weapons. Most of them are just well done wood with paint, or cleverly covered with latex.

Hmmm yeah i suppose you're right:p Well i never seen any anime related conventions irl ( not that there's none, simply they're rather small sized ones and i doubt you'd find any serious cosplay there ).

I rather wonder if a decent replica of this would be allowed even if not metal. I've only been to Otakon up in Baltimore, MD; but their restrictions on weapons are first, no steel; from there the length is limited to 8 feet, and it may weigh no more than 250 pounds. At least, that was last year... Ah, here it is: otakon.com/policies.asp#weaponsThis sword, accurately reconstructed, may push those limits a touch. I imagine it'd be a good six or seven feet long, at least... Bleach is getting some good replicas. Seems with companies like Musashi, Masahiro, and comparable others I don't know of bringing quality within reach of the "normal guy," it's getting much easier to make a good, cheap, katana-like object. Then to just change the fittings a bit to match the design seen in the series, and we have a quality replica.

I think they would allow it, after all the limit is 8 feet. So if an accurate wooden replica was around 6-7 feet it would be within the bounds of their rules. I mean a truly accurate buster sword would probably be about the same length, and i've seen a whole heck of alot of them at the conventions. Also, don't even get me started on sephiroth's masamune....

I'm sure it'd be fine. Unless somebody went a little overboard, but it'd be hard to do that.
On the other hand, I've seen photos on these Internets of guys as Sano from Rurouni Kenshin, where their whatsit was probably nine feet or so. Either that or they were really, really short.

Honestly speaking, if i were to get myself a replica of anime sword that has a pretty much normal katana blade i'd just get some quality blade and do the fittings myself:p ( talking about bare blades, Kris Cutlery seems like a very nice place to look for one )
