Has anyone polished their Katana blade & also re-polished the Kissaki after doing the blade? I'm in the process of polishing my Cheness Ko Katana & wondered what is the correct process to finish the Kissaki? Most factory blades appear to be wire brushed in a 90 degree angle to the blade. Is there a procedure to achieve a nice even finish by hand?

I would say the kissaki is the most complex part of the blade to polish. Polishing has a lot to do with proper blade geometry. If the blade is shaped correctly (kissaki as well) then just polish it in the same way you polished the rest of the blade, instead of flipping the everything 90 degrees, and make sure to polish at least to the same level as the rest of the blade. By doing this, you should get a nice, thin, demarcation line with a perfectly polished kissaki. Think of the kissaki as another blade sprouting from the original blade.

It does indeed appear to be a complex section of the blade to polish. I basically polished out the fake etched hamon because I wanted the Katana to be a representation for what it truly is. Being through hardened, the hamon would not be true to the blade. Anyway, I'm getting close to what I think looks presentable for a novice polish. The blade is intended to be a functional blade anyway & won't really be a display piece. I'll try to post pics when it is completed.
