I have never bought from them before but I must say that for the price, ElGur swords look very good. They appear to have thick tangs and solid, well done peens. Also their viking swords have the genuine two piece pommels, which I like. I just hope they make sharps too. I would try one out sometime if they do. Here's a link to the website: www.sword-elgur.cz/home-_-catalog.html?sm=1Just wanted to share this with any newcomers looking for sword makers in Europe. There are still many makers out there that rarely get mentioned.

Wowza! Their renaissance sword is just stunning for that price D: their style reminds me a lot lutel handicrafts and i wonder if they have something to do with each other but sweet jesus those are some very good looking swords.

Perhaps the smith used to work for Lutel in the past? I also think that some of the designs are very similar to the ones at Lutel, while some of them are not. I like their viking swords, especially the ballinderry sword and the grave 425 sword.

This name rings a bell, and possibly some alarm bells. I'd ask this question over at myarmoury.com. I remember the name coming up in a discussion but I can't remember if it was good or bad and I can't find the thread.

I searched on myarmoury for information, and most info about them was pretty old. The swords were pretty well received in general, a few people mentioned that they were overweight, but for many of the swords this does not seem to be the case. Their version of the Ballinderry sword has a weight of 2.9 lbs, which is standard viking sword weight. I also found out that a member of myarmoury has recently bought a custom sword from them: www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=132&start=1100It's near the bottom of the page. I still do not know if you can order them sharp or if they have distal taper, but I may ask them about it soon.

I am thinking about ordering their type O Viking. They do sharps. They gave me a quote that was actually quite fair.

I'll be sure to post pictures and measurements when I receive mine, as well as a humble review. As fa as price and customer service, so far they seem outstanding.

Hi guys, I am from CZE so I had a lot of opportunities to met ElGur's work or him personally, so I could probably answer some of your questions or give you some information. I am not sure how the situation looks outside central Europe (CZE, SK, PL), but there are many swordmakers here in Czech Republic... some are really cheap, some are cheap but provide good quality products and some are very good and Jan Motyčka (ElGur) is definitively one of the best. His products are not cheap, by our local standards, but for offered quality it is fair. His swords are completely forged, historically accurate and feel good in the hand. Some of his swords could be considered overwighted, especially his older works, but that is thanks to "reenactment community" requirements for durability and sometimes it is because of heavy originals. He recently made Great Moravian type X sword replica based on grave (no. 1347) finding from Mikulčice - he wants it for his own costume purposes so he makes it slightly lighter... 825mm and 1060g seems quite OK, it was very nice in the hand. My friend from our HEMA club got his sword just few days ago. Longsword 115cm, 1450g, POB 8,5cm, really nice one. imgur.com/a/6KkdetKOf course, best way is to follow ElGur's FB Page ( www.facebook.com/swordmakery.elgur/ ) and contact him directly, but I can also give some info...

I saw some of his work today and I am definitely intrigued. What's he like to work with? I haven't a clue how much most of his work costs or how long his wait time is.

I also just got a few poctures so far not the actual sword. The wait time for me was kne and half year, but i didnt order scabbard at first and decided to add it later, which postpond the delivery by two months. The price is really cheap for me
