A lightsaber going helicopter, now that's a site to see. I have a question about lightsabers, if they are a saber, why are the cylindrical? I thought sabers had a single blade.

I also wondered that. Aren't sabers also curved? Or am I an idiot?

Lightsaber blades are round, and only a few thousandths thick. And what sounds better lightsword? or lightsaber???

Why not lightblade, or something not say EXACTLY what it is. Hmmm...I need to come up with the name of this Jedi weapon. has to have light in it, because the weapon is made out of something that looks like light. Hmmm, but what else could I add to it? Lightsword? Nah, dosen't sound that good. How bout, Lightsaber!

Lightsaber is the original, and best name.

Well, no one ever said that the definition of a "saber" is the same within all galaxies. Somebody go look it up in the Galactic-Basic dictionary.

Because a saber is a gentlemans weapon that requires great skill and finesse, you can't throw huge lumbering cuts with it, like I said you need finesse and grace and poise when fighting with a saber. The lightsaber just multiplies that a thousand times, no area for mistakes with one of those things. Accidentally belting yourself in the scone with it would cleave your head in two.

I also wondered that. Aren't sabers also curved? Or am I an idiot? Well you're not an idiot, but essentially all later sabres were straight. Patton sabre, for example? That's a rather flowery statement . Fact is, it doesn't take any more skill than any other sword, and many sabres were abused pretty badly in the napoleonic wars. Such as cutting firewood....etc.

Yeah but the consequences are more severe.

Sorry, should specify, to use a curved sabre properly takes grace and finesse, especially something like a tulwar or a scimitar or one of those sabres with a huge curve.

lightsabre
A more civilized weapon for a more civilized age.
Curved lightsabre blades, adventure, excitement?
A Jedi craves not these things!!!

Mike, you're thinking "Dune". I recently got one of those force FX lightsaber prop toys - oh my god, it's the toy I waited 30 years to play with. I recommend that everyone go out and buy one now with an overall rating of 6/5. What a blast. I couldn't own a real one though, as tempting as that would be, because I'd certainly kill myself or someone else in no time at all, then I'd have Wraith all over me... I need to get off this thread - my geek flag is showing. Alright, alright, one more thing - has anyone noticed the vast change in lightsaber fighting styles between episodes 4-6 (vaguely Euro-fencing - look at the footwork) and 1-3 (straight up Shaolin jian)?
