Hey guys,
I'm just starting to collect swords and I'm gonna start with Katanas because they all come with a saya, which makes them way safer than a long sword during an earthquake.
I've looked around and found that Sword of the East is my best option because they offer a flat rate of $30 for all shipments to Canada. So with that in mind, I've only been looking at swords they offer. I'm looking for a real sword that's around $100 and a cheap Iaito, to practice with.
So for the real sword. I've seen many nice reviews on the Musashi Bamboo, but all of them are from 2009/2010. Sword of the East has it backordered right now, so it's safe to say it can't possibly be from the same batch you guys got. Does Musashi's quality hold up, in other words will the sword I buy right now have the same quality as the ones that got such high praise? Since the backorder will take 4 weeks, I've began looking at other swords too, more specifically the Damascus ones. I really like the wavy pattern on the blade and it makes the sword seem more hand made. The specific ones I am looking at are the Green Shinto and Steel Tachi (or Jintachi) both are from Ten Ryu. I can't seem to find a lot of information on Ten Ryu or these swords, so I was wondering if you guys have any experience with these 2 swords. I've seen a post that says the Jintachi has bad fitting, but I don't know if that was a one time thing or something that's proliferate for all Ten Ryu swords.
As for the Iaito, I found some from Musashi on Amazon for around $40, but the shipping rate to Canada is ridiculous ($50+). I'm wondering if there's any other stores out there that has cheap Iaito, that doesn't have ridiculous shipping rates to Canada. I did send Sword of the East an email asking them if they can order one for me but I haven't heard anything yet.
