Hi. I am in the process of choosing my first sword. I had almost settled on Cheness Tenchi Ko but started reading mixed reviews. Can I put a long Tsuka on a wakizaki, or will the short tang (nakago) make this set up less durable? Leaning toward Ronin Dojo Pro Series.Do these have wider blades like the Cheness Yamakami? Uses:Some light back yard cutting.Just want to know what I buy will be durable if I ever need it to be. Thank you in advance for helping a new guy.

I've handled a Tenchi Ko-Katana on several occasions and I have nothing but good things to say about it, It's tough and a whole lot of fun. The fittings were, as always, not great. Everything was functional and tight, though, and that's about as much as you can ask for with Cheness. It'd be my #1 pick were I to purchase a Ko-Katana.
Ronin Katana also sells a Ko-Katana that I've got to use. It was also a lot of fun. Slightly larger and a bit more blade heavy, so it would be a better all around cutter. Doesn't handle quite as well as the Tenchi, but the difference is very slight. The Dojo Pro is much more attractive, and is made with higher quality fittings and saya.
You can put a larger tsuka on a Wakizashi, but that opens up a lot of room for tsuka failure. Ideally, the tsuka should only extend a maximum of two to three inches beyond the nakago(tang). As such, I would not recommend doing so as a precaution. The Tenchi has a blade about the same as the Ronin Dojo Pro. Ronin's don't have wide, XL-type blades.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response and great info. Ideally the Tenchi is what I want. Just don't want to buy a dud. Thanks again.

No problem, my man. I'd also suggest that you order any Cheness via the SBG Store. You will end up paying $5 0r $10 more after the transaction fee, but I have heard much fewer complaints of seriously flawed swords when ordered this way. Most of the complaints I read are when they are ordered through Cheness' home site. Mind you, they sell hundreds of swords through their site and get only a handful of reported bad apples, but even a small chance is a chance. Either way, have fun!
