Are you looking at katana exclusively?

First, you need to figure out what you actually want your sword to be able to do in a survival situation. Then, when you realize that there isn't one perfect sword that will do everything, you focus on what is most important to you in a sword & go from there. (Of course, we could have very different ideas of what a survival situation is; as well as what we would want/need/expect of our bladed weapons.)

For katana, you might look at the budget cutters.

Miller Bros Blades (M4 + M21), with custom tan/black G10 scales If I ever found myself in a SHTF situation, the M4 would definitely be part of my gear. While it lacks the length to make it an ideal combat weapon; it is solid as hell, near perfect in short range, and will handle just about any task that could be assigned to a bladed weapon (and many that shouldn't). Be a shame to get it dirty, though

Here's the deal: You'll never know until you start buying them.
The good news is, I think everything you mentioned is a defensible choice. Unless you have lots of hands on time with various swords, you'll have a hard time making the "right" choice---which is probably the "right" choice only for you, only for your perceived needs.
Heck, man, get a D'capitan.
And if it's mostly just a play bug out sword, that's okay too.

I am leaning forward on a sword type weop... i have an ax and a machete and feel the need for some large in the 2-3 pound range for man varmits.. i have plenty of guns but would want something robust and intimadating.. a dcapitan might do it and so might a lot of different things...like i said, so hard to push ' pay '

I cant decide on a single or duel wield sword.. I want something robust and cool... A chopper type sword type thingy might work but then again. a lighter weight bo-hi style katana where speed and control might be good...BUT HECK A O Katana might just scare someone into NOT messing with you, "saluatory affect" link me something i might not have seen from a quality manufacturer... 500.00-750.00 or less, prefer less but i could be pursuaded to "Pay now" lol...btw thank you ALL !! Keep it coming
i have seen zombie tools and have seen everything on this site... p.s. thanks paul for your hard work

Someof those "swords: were interesting, albiet expensive, and i wonder about their quality and what kind of steele is used in the making of them... I apreciate your posting that and thanks again! Love this site because of the wealth of info... i am leaning for a ZT vakra and a ronin O-Katana.
Maybe, lol !

Scorpion swords has a reputation for tough stuf. I like the Messer myself. I'm not crazy about the looks of the zt stuff, but they're good swords. I think they're expensive for what they are though. Ronins are tough as nails, and a good value. I lean towards katana, as you can tell by my avatar. Ricky has informed me that his 1095 budget cutters will be back in stock next month. You can look at pictures here.

Have you thought about a dadao? If you want a chopper with intimidation factor I think that would do it. Kult of Athena has them for a good price if I remember correctly.
