I have this puppy on order and i was wondering if anyone knows anything about it as information is sketchy at best. I emailed windlass but haven't received a response yet. The version i am getting is the windlass high carbon steel one rather than the crappy stainless steel knock offs.
Any information appreciated

I've heard VERY negative things about it on myarmoury. Like complete and utter failure. Sorry to be such a killjoy

Unfortunately, I have to agree that the sword should probably not be used for anything other than casual handling and display. I don't know much about the sword, personally, but I just did a little searching ocver at SFI and a respected and trustworthy member over there remarked that he'd heard of 5 or 6 of them breaking during use. The best I can say is that if you are a huge Jordan/Wheel of Time fan, then that will be a satisfying piece to have hanging in a prominent location, to be taken down and lovingly handled, when the mood strikes.

My friend got one and came over the other day and I got to play with it and I liked the way it handled. The blade is still dull so I didn't get to cut with it, maybe thats a good thing.
I would like to know how the others Heron Mark failed? Was it from cutting or thrusting?

In the thread I referred to, the guy only said he'd heard that they broke "in use". That's as specific a comment as I've found so far.

I think he got the sword because he likes the book. I don't know if he wants to use the sword for cutting or not but if he does I'll tell him what you guys said.

In the thread I referred to, the guy only said he'd heard that they broke "in use". That's as specific a comment as I've found so far. In the thread I read, the guy decided to cut apart an old armchair using his "beloved " Heron Mark sword. Few swords can stand this type of abuse. The sword is made by Windlass... this means it's somewhat decent, maybe a tad whippy...and if one broke due to regular stresses, it was likely that particular sword that was flawed , not the model...after all there is no machine stamping these out.

For the record absolutely no cutting will be done with this sword, i am not in the habit of doing something so stupid as cutting up a couch with a blunt sword. I want it for kata and love of the books, i am a very big jordan fan, the guy i am buying it from has assured me it is a threaded tang and will hold up to kata, he sounds like he knows what he is talking about.

You'll catch no flak from me, though it's not exactly how I envisioned Rand's sword, I have still considered ordering it...
I'd also llike Mat's spear and Perrin's axe.

When I held the Heron it felt sturdy to me. If the guy broke his sword cutting up a armchair I agree with Marc that some swords can't take that type of abuse and they are still good swords.
Bloodwraith you will have fun doing Kata's with that sword but the only thing I didn't like was the wire around the hilt.
The blade was one of the stiffest Windlass blades I have seen not whippy like the other Windlass swords.

razor: If the one i get is like the one you are talking about then i will be very happy indeed.
Marc: i know what you mean, i am really enjoying the series and would like matt's spear, lan's sword and faile's knives.

I also pictured the sword differently in my mind, but still like the design.

Marc: i actually found an interesting interpretation of perrins axe can't remember who made it, will see if i can dig it up. I more pictured the heron mark as something more akin to a knight's sword, i can't remember if it talks about the shape of the blade or not in the books. Would love to learn the kata from the book although i don't think they are realistic, jordan doesn't write fight scenes so much as talks about the different kata used and we have to use our imaginations. Still waiting on matt's spear. I wish gen2 could do their intepretation of the heron mark i think it would sell like hot cakes considering how good quality their swords are.

MMM.... I love the books. I was thinking about getting the sword, but decided that I just didn't know enough about it. Not only is it not what I envisioned it to be like (of course, how would it be...), but the price is a bit high for it. (IMO)

I think that everyone was a little suprised at the official look of it.... I envisioned a knight's sword as well, until it was mentioned as curved, and then all the routines/kata made more sense as japanese style fighting (not to mention the poetic naming style ) I also wasn't impressed with Perrin's axe, mostly because he sounds so big in the books, but even the pictures on the covers were disappointing in that regard. Haven't seen a pic of matt's spear though, just his fox head medallion - also not what I pictured The power of interpretation is maybe best left to yhe imagination

Arms of Valor has it in stock, both sharp and non-sharp. With the SBG-15 discount you would get 15% off.
My personal thoughts on the sword. It handles fairly well, though it does not have as solid a feel as you would expect for the money. The construction is very much like a katana but with more weight in the blade and less in the handle. It has a screw on pommel, so you can disassemble the sword.

Hi folks,
I notice it's been a while since anyone commented on the Windlass Heron Mark sword. Anyone had anymore experience with it? Heard anything? thanks!
