I would agree with almost everything the admin just stated. Although IMO, I wouldn't say that the Kaze has not been outclassed by anything DH and <$300. The 1095 beater pretty much outclasses all right now at least as far as a practical cutter goes. We all have different opinions about aesthetics so we really should always let the buyer decide that part on his own. For instance, a KC 26 or 29 is a great sword functionally(another sword I would pick over the Kaze for cutting ability), but the saya looks like a hollowed out chair leg for god's sake. So that part has to be left up to the buyer but its good to inform that buyer if you feel KC 26/29 matches up with or is better than a Kaze functionally for instance,
Also, I don't mean to trash Cheness, I think the Kaze is probably my favorite Cheness blade to boot. However it is hard to argue that us forum readers have seen more complaints about QC regarding Cheness blades than most of the other reputable companies. Yes there are going to far worse things coming from the crappy ebay vendors like ryansword, lyuesword, etc. but I'm referring only to the commonly recommended vendors on this sword forum. I also agree with admin that it can't be anywhere near 50%. There are a couple reason that come to mind as to why we may see more posts regarding Cheness QC problems than many other forums. One reason is because they have been around longer and they have sold more swords and quite possibly still sell more swords than the newer competition. If more swords are sold then a you will have a higher number of lemons sneak through. I'm not sure they do sell more swords. I'm only suggesting it as a possible reason. Also it should be noted that with any company and all swords that are bought by members of the forum, that you are always more likely to see a complaint posted, than you are to see someone post that they bought a sword and it came exactly as described or above and beyond the customers expectations. To be fair, the members of this forum are actually really good about giving feedback(good or bad) on pretty much every sword they buy new from a vendor. I'm simply saying that with any product bought online, people will make it a point to voice their complaints when they get less than expected but not so much so when they get exactly what wanted and are a happy satisfied customer. I'm not saying people don't take the time to tell us when they get they get a proper sword from Cheness, however you can be sure that 99% of customers who had a problem with their sword will post about it. They should post about it since we all want to know, but this is one of the reason we see as many QC complaints from Cheness as we do.
As for the reviews being outdated ,they are plain and simple. Admin is correct when he says it is good to know a company and especially a specific sword(i.e the Kaze) has been produced and sold for many years. but the review itself is many years old from a time when there was much less competition and the 9260 spring steel Cheness is famous for(or Cheness made famous depending on how you see it) was much newer to the sword market and more exclusive to Cheness at the time. A new review of either a Kaze forged recently or a review of a Kaze that is old and been used frequently over the years. Such a review would show how well the sword has held up over the years. Still we are talking about $300 production katana and I don't know if any of them can really survive many years of full on abuse.
