Hi guys.. im new to buying katana swords so im really not that familiar with the cleaning process. I have read on a couple of places but no one really is that detailed about what to do. I got a basic kit but dont really know what im doing lol. Before i go and screw something up i was hoping some one could kind of walk me through it. For example i got a stick with a powder ball on top of it and have no idea what thats for. If someone could help me out i would be greatful. Thanks

Hi btnh6668, it's easy, just wipe off the excess old oil with a piece of the rice paper in your kit(it looks like thin cloth) or you can use a clean, soft cotton cloth, old tee shirts are good! Wipe from tsuka end (hilt end) to kissaki (point) in one direction only. Tap the powder ball along both sides of the blade every few inches os so. This ball has powdered whetstone in it and cleans the remaining old oil off the blade. Take a clean piece of the rice paper and wipe both sides of the blade at the same time(fold the paper over the back of the blade) from tsuka to kissaki in one direction. Then re-oil the blade with just a little bit of oil and you're done! Oh by the way, watch your fingers while doing this! I hope this helps.
