Does anyone have any references to what viking sword scabbards look like historically? I'm commissioning a scabbard soon for a Viking era sword, and would like to make sure that it's somewhat historically accurate. Are there any features that I should make sure it has, and also features that would be an anachronism, or inaccurate? I couldn't find any references online or any videos about it. I just want to avoid like the equivalent of adding horns to a viking helmet basically.
Yes, although they aren't super easy to find. Viking Swords by Androshchuk has a chapter on them, for example, but it's really hard to get a copy. Maybe Esther Cameron's book will be easier to find? I haven't seen that one in person though.

that looks fantastic! i don't see many Berserkers so its always a treat when one comes up, even more so with a gorgeous scabbard!
do you have to send your sword in to Andy for him to make the scabbard or does he have patterns on file for Albion sword blades?

Yep! I shipped it directly to him from KoA! Was lucky enough that the Berserkr happened to be in stock and Andy was available to work on it within the month. It was definitely a grueling wait, but I can't imagine how much worse it is for normal Albion wait lists!

Hello, A recently purchased used Valiant Armory Hjalmarr Viking sword. I did change the color of the grip and belt and reattached the scabbard bridge and added different leather straps to help secure it. Here is the original sword and colors. The scabbard bridge was loose and held there by thin leather cord that allowed it to swivel a lot.
Here is what I have done so far. Changed the color of the belt and grip. The sword belt was listed as partial but was complete and a little sleuthing I found how it was supposed to be worn. Secured the scabbard bridge with using different leather binding. I have yet to take any scratches from the blade, but this has turned out to be a fun project.
