I've been browsing the knife site's for the last few weeks looking for my ideal survival/bushcraft/general do everything i need knife.I'd narrowed the choice down to three. The Fallkniven H1/F1 or the Esee 5.The Esee is way overpriced in the uk though considering it's just good old 1095 so that narrowed it down to just 2.After handling both the F1 and the H1 i found the handle on the F1 to be too narrow for my taste.
First impressions. The knife came in a pretty bland box with no paperwork inside,i like to get at least some bumf with a knife even if it's just for some lite reading when im on the bog.

The knife is 8 and 1/4 long with a nice 4 inch blade of VG10 laminated steel (i usualy don't do stainless steel's but VG10 is really nice from what i've read).
The grip is Thermorun which is a grippy type of rubberised plastic, very resistant to chemicals/water and the general mess that a hunting knife encounters. The spine is 5mm thick and the blade on mine came scary sharp.Easily able to shave hair or push cut paper .
The blade itself has a very well done convex grind with a nice transition from about 10mm from the spine to the edge with no shoulders, the current buzz word would be 0 bevel grind (hate that term). The blade is all belly though with a nice constant curve from heel to tip.The spine is perfectly flat and throws a lot of sparks from a ferro rod

The tang protrudes from the handle,i cant ever see myself wanting to hammer a knife into something but it's there if i need it :? (could be a useful glass breaker)

The sheath that came with mine is made of Zytel, and to be honest it's utter crap .I'm not a fan of plastic sheath's and the belt loop is made from flimsy nylon secured with two rivets. The technical term for it could be called tactical,i prefer to call it shyte

The knife does feel very comfortable on the hip.I'm used to the weight of a Kukri so this knife is barely noticeable. I'm sure you could baton all day with it then go and gralloch a deer without re sharpening,I'll take it to the woods when the weather improves and test it out.

I wanted a modern take on an old knife and up to now the H1 fits the bill,it handles like a dream and gives off a feeling of quality (apart from the sheath which just feels like a cheap afterthought) The only downside is it's expensive,i managed to haggle £30 off but that's still £100 beer tokens. If it doesn't see me out i'll be bloody annoyed  .thank's for reading my ramble
