Well i took my new katana out for cutting yesterday and i think i may have put a slight bend in the blade. I did find the 2x4 method listed in another thread here but i just wanted a second opinion on whether it's bent or not. It may be hard to tell from a picture but i figured why not try. From this view to me it looks like at about the middle of the blade it curves slightly off to the left and then comes back in. Like i said it's a slight bend so i'm not too worried about it at the moment. But what i had done was i kinda jumped straight to tatami after cutting some basic targets. I was actually making some nice solid cuts but the mistake i made was probably that i let my friend try and cut with it who's only experience swinging around stick-like objects is with baseball bats and lacross sticks... Hard to tell from the pic,if it is it's not too bad,You could put a straight edge along the side the blade to give you a better idea if it's taken a set or not.

Sooo... Yeah i'm an idiot. I figured i'd post this here instead of a new thread but i took my sword out to cut today and i accidently hit the stool i was using as my cutting surface. I didn't cut straight in, more like hit the side of the edge on it as i was making the cut. But it left a scuff mark on it. Here's a pic of it. It's the brownish mark near the cutting edge not far below the kissaki. So is there a way to deal with this? I'm assuming wet sandpaper from what i've read about rusting and pitting but i'm not sure if that applies to this. Attachments:

looks like some of the wood finish from the stool, I would try a little mag polish before going to the sandpaper.

Well i already used the sandpaper a few days ago. I did it really softly with 800 grit and it came out really nice actually. But thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep it in mind if i ever do it again. Hopefully i won't have to though.
