Hey I'm looking to buy my first fully functional (sharp) sword. I have two in mind based on reviews and on what I'm looking for. The first is the Gen 2 Black Prince(new version) the second is Hanwei's Hand and a Half Sword (Albrecht II Sword). What I'm looking for is advice on which one to buy based off of some criteria. First I'm a novice to cutting so I will make mistakes so I need durability(also my funds are limited so this sword will have to last for a while, again durability). Second, I would like a sword as historically accurate as possible(and a sword that acts like a historical blade would). Thirdly cutting ability of the sword(I've seen some impressive cuts done with the Hanwei's hand and half sword, seems like there's a lack of video reviews on the Gen 2 Black Prince(new version)?
Thanks any advice would be much appreciated.
ps. if there's a sword that you'd think out shines both these swords(in the general price range) please feel free to say so.

Well, I just recently purchase a greatsword from Hanwei. (Labeled as the bastard sword but I refuse to call it that, haha) And it is great. A lot of veteran members here recommend basically almost anything from Hanwei and I can understand why as they're durability and functionality look to be great; plenty of great cutting and testing videos which attest to that. From what I gathered when considering my first purchase was that basically anything from Hanwei is great for beginners (like me) and experts alike. So, as we're talking about hand and half swords here, if that is anything similar to what I recently purchased, which I would imagine they're quite alike in terms of durability and functionality and such, then I would say go for it. Haven't handled the particular sword but again, there are plenty of resources on Hanwei's products and a vast majority of them get good reviews/testimonials about their quality.
Just my two cents and I am a beginner, so take that into consideration, but for my first actual sword, Hanwei really stepped up to the plate for me.

Hey thanks for responding. Yea the main reason I'm leaning towards Hanwei is there is just a lot more reviews and videos of their product out there then of Generation 2. I've got a question for you if you don't mind. I've read that Hanweis swords don't come all that sharp from the factory, did you find that to be true with your (greatsword:))? Also there are a few reviews out there with hanweis swords bending and such from cutting, and concerns with quality control on they're part, just wondering if you know if hanwei has any warranty on their swords?
Thanks again for responding

Not a problem at all. Well my blade came "Hanwei" sharp which is really not all that sharp. The blade starts to get sharp around half-way and finally closest around the tip is probably what I'd say is medieval sharp. If you want any particularly sharp then you'll either have to manage it yourself or request sharpening from wherever you're purchasing it. There are plenty of good guides as well to sharpening on the forums as well. As for breaking and bending and such I can offer this viewtopic.php?f=10&t=15340If its the sword itself with a defect, such as implied in that thread, then getting a replacement should be manageable and its quite stressed in that thread that thats definitely not the norm for Hanwei pieces. www.cashanwei.com/resource/product-warranty/317There is a warranty although its one year. Also, I wouldn't be put off of the Gen 2 products as they're reportedly quite good as well. I just prefer Hanwei's design rather than Gen 2. www.sword-buyers-guide.com/battl ... sword.html viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12902I think thats an older and a new version. But either way, I think with either of those swords you'll find them pretty decent. www.sword-buyers-guide.com/albrecht.htmlHope this helps!

Again thanks, much appreciated. Ok yea I've read some of the sharpening threads on this forum already. The place I saw the bending blade was on the test cutting section of Arms of Valor www.swordsofvalor.com/cuttingtests2.html . Thanks for the information on the warranty. Yea I read your review on the Gen 2 black prince(it was one of the reasons I was looking at it) and now that they got the new version out it sounds even better(as long as Gen 2 durability is still there). What I REALLY want is both swords , but sounds like either sword I get should work out for me. Thanks
