So my first sword (Ronin Dojo Pro Model 017) arrived in the mail today. As an initiation rite, I took it out to my backyard and proceeded to cut an old water bottle in half. Minutes after this, these spots that looked like rainbows appeared on the blade. I tried using the uchiko ball to clean them off, but I haven't had a chance to oil it yet. Is there any way to remove the stains? Will I need stuff like Brasso or Mothers Mag?
If you can't answer without pictures, I'll have some up by tomorrow.
As for the sword itself, it is very nice. It feels nice in my hands (and I'm a smaller guy), has wonderful koshirae, cuts really nicely, and arrived in a timely fashion. It also has a slight ghost-hamon on the center section of the blade, and it looks really nice. I love this sword and would recommend it any day of the week.
Anyway, anything you guys can tell me is appreciated.

EDIT- Some oiling removed most of the stains. Are there things other than a standard katana cleaning kit (Uchiko ball, chyoji oil) I should use to maintain my katana?

The first thing I thought of is that the water spread across the sheen of oil with which the sword was shipped, creating the rainbow...but, since it was referred to as a stain, that seems unlikely because it would wipe right off. You did clean/dry it before putting it back in the saya, right?

No, I left it to dry outside the saya for about 3 hours after thoroughly drying it.

For my purposes, that would be a "yes" - I don't do a lot of fancy stuff with mine after use...wipe dry, then leave open for a while. I don't oil my most frequently used sword every time, though I know that is standard procedure.
I may be overly paranoid about letting water in the saya - it just seems like a bad idea to me; but I've seen numerous cutting videos that show people reinserting their sword without so much as a casual wipe.
I'm curious about the stains appearing so quickly - if you can get clear pics, I'd appreciate seeing them.

There's nothing to take pictures of anymore. A light oiling, and another once-over with the uchiko ball actually completely cleared it up.
