Infortunately, The person selling it had no idea. It was from a relative's estate sale.
To me I suspect its a reproduction. It looks like pictures of the 1858 calvalry sword except for the little brass nut holding the tang.

Agreed- Dave will know best. But in my amateur opinion it looks like a good safe tang. thick, radiused shoulders, single piece et al. Decent.

Dave would be the one to ask. My concern is,yes the tang isnt welded to the blade,but,is that piece of allthread welded to the tang?Or is it one piece thats been threaded at the end?

I'd agree, good radius on the corners, the nut does not take a lot of stress so that should not be an issue so long as it fits correctly when threaded.
