What do you think of this for my first European sword? www.kultofathena.com/product~item~500020~name~Classic+Medieval+Sword.htmI want to keep the first one pretty cheap and simple. How is the vendor's reputation? KOA is one of the only vendors I could find who ships via USPS and not UPS. My first sword was shipped via UPS and cost nearly as much as the sword so I'm trying to avoid them if I can. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Robo, I don't have that sword tho I've heard it's a decent sword for the price. I have dealt with KOA several times and all were very satisfactory transactions with fast shipping. I'm only a few hundred miles from them, so delivery time may depend on where your located. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

The sword is decent. Not overly flexible, but the PoB is decently far out from the hilt (IIRC, about 6.5-7"). What are you looking at doing with it? The sword is not too bad historically. You could choose a far worse sword for your first sword. I have only heard good things about KoA as a vendor (Windlass being the one producing the sword). You may get better results if you were to elaborate on what you are wanting out of the sword. Cutting, wearing around, sparring, etc.
If you could spare the extra money, I would look into getting one of the new Valiant Armoury Practical swords. Just based on the names that are signing off on these, they will be worth every penny. You also have the option of getting one already sharpened, if you plan on cutting with it.

I own that sword , and love it. It has a real solid feeling in the hand, and looks better in person than the pics I've seen. Lot's of blade presence, or call it tip heavy, whichever. Not real nimble, but feels good in the hand. (to me anyway) You could do much worse in that pricerange. The tang is peened and everything is tight on mine, good flex and hasn't taken any bends. Someone else (Tsafa?) beat one until the pommel came loose, it was after a ridiculous number of pell strikes though iirc. Koa was good to do business with in my one experience with them. Great prices and reasonable delivery.

Wait what was this topic about again? I thought Windlass discontinued the Medieval? Ah, nevermind it was the European they axed. Nonetheless, this is quite a pretty sword, and quite stealsome for only 150 dollars.

Thanks for the advice everybody. It looks as if that will be my next purchase. It'll only be used for some light backyard cutting and display. By the way, anyone else starving to death because they spend their grocery money on this stuff? I've been interested in swords for years and have 4 katanas but nothing else on the market really interests me right now. I fear this is but the first step toward the dark side... axes, maces, rapiers, scimitars, ...oh my.

Wow that classic medieval is a really old model. I think they're one of the first ones MRL started carrying when they switched from Del-tins. IIRC it's a copy of the DT2130 with a wheel pommel instead of the deltin's brazil nut.

I've been contemplating buying this sword, as it appears to be the same blade (similar, at least) from the old Schwert model, that I've recently fell in love with. If I do buy it, I will be taking a leaf out of Brother Brenno's book and wire-wrapping the hilt, as well as finding a replacement for the horrible crossguard. Possibilities of a brass pommel would be nice. I'd like to get this as close to the Schwert as I can. Perhaps Brian could hook me up?

Yes, Brian just informed me of this. If I had the proper tools, it wouldn't be an issue. But that isnt the case, so I may be swayed to choose a different blade as a project. Shame, I really like this one.
